Harris Flies To Third Straight Deery LM Win
by NSSN Staff

TIPTON, Iowa — Brian Harris has got to be thinking about building an addition to his trophy case.

Harris won the Deery Brothers Summer Series main event Tuesday evening at Cedar County Raceway.
The $3,000 IMCA Late Model tour victory was his third straight, one shy of the tour record established by Gary Webb in 1994 and equaled by Rob Toland a decade later.

The series point leader gets his opportunity to match the mark himself next Tuesday, June 18 at West Liberty Raceway.

Half a dozen lead changes, just a single caution and a virtual photo-finish for second place contributed to the story line at Tipton.

Justin Kay drew the pole for the 50-lapper and led the first three laps before outside front row starter Stephan Kammerer eked ahead on lap four.

Setting a bristling pace, Kammerer caught up with the back of the field by lap 10. Disaster struck on the next circuit, however, as he missed his mark in the first set of turns and spun, bringing out the yellow and then restarting at the rear.

That put Kay and Denny Eckrich up front for the restart. They’d trade the lead before Eckrich settled in for a 10-lap run in first.

The seventh-starting Harris stayed locked in third until midway, when he found the fast line to the front. He stayed there to the checkers and his eighth career Deery victory while Kay, Eckrich and Ray Guss Jr. went three-wide for the runner-up spot.

Kay finally got the edge in that battle with 10 laps left and managed to pare some of Harris’ lead in traffic, but ran out of laps to challenge. Andy Eckrich got back in the mix late and came just inches short of besting Kay in the race for second.

Denny Eckrich was fourth and Guss took fifth. Kammerer stayed fast and worked his way back into the top 10 before spinning again. Hard charger was Darrel DeFrance, who advanced 11 spots to finish 12th.

The finish:
Brian Harris, Justin Kay, Andy Eckrich, Denny Eckrich, Ray Guss Jr., Nate Beuseling, Mike Zemo Jr., Luke Merfeld, Jason Utter, Joel Callahan, Todd Malmstrom, Darrel DeFrance, Jeremiah Hurst, Dan Shelliam, Kyle Hinrichs, Spencer Diercks, Andy Nezworski, Tyler Bruening, Rob Moss, Ron Klein, Colby Springsteen, Stephan Kammerer, Nick Marolf, Rob Toland.

Among the many dirt tracks of Ohio Waynesfield Raceway park is an anomaly. In a state well known for winged sprint cars Waynesfield is the only track running a weekly non-wing (traditional) sprint program. Being different is good for the track, on an average Saturday the pits are overflowing with cars. Last week 116 cars from 5 divisions packed the pits. The Best performance motorsports non-wing sprints featuring 36 of the 116, proving the overwhelming support for their non-wing sprint program.
Waynesfield raceway Park is the new kid on the block in the ohio dirt track scene, their first season in 2003. Since their establishment, the track has consistently been attracting new competitors and fans every year and now boasts one of the biggest average cars counts in the state week in and out.
If you are in Ohio and looking to catch some tradition sprint action look no further than Waynesfield. The wide 1/3 mile high banked track is multi-grooved and produces excellent racing. Their track staff has also mastered the art of dirt track prep always giving drivers a smooth well worked surface on which to race.
This Saturday is Buffalo Wild Wings night featuring all 5 of their regular divisions the Best Performance Motorsports Non Wing Sprint Cars, Post AgriService UMP Modifieds, PPC AMSA Mini Sprints, Block Insurance Tough Trucks, and the JR and Sons Service Center Compacts Gates open at 5:00 with racing starting at 7:00 check the tracks website at waynesfieldmotorsportspark.com for more information or directions.
Come out and join our luvracin.com reporting team at the track, and if you can’t make check our live twitter updates from the track at Ohio_openwheel on twitter.

On this Friday when you hear a roar and the ground trembles in Toledo it won’t be because of the road -construction on I-475. It will be the earth shaking power of the MSA supermodifieds and the Auto Value Super Sprints resounding from the high banks of the Toledo Speedway to take part in “the world’s fastest short track show”. The annual event is the only time in the year the sanctions co-compete and gives fans a chance to see the both the supermodifieds and winged sprint cars in action on the ultra fast ˝ mile. It’s an opportunity to see the best of both worlds and see some of the fastest cars in short track racing.
The race will be the 4th event for the MSA supermodifieds defending champion, Trent Stephens taking home two of the first three wins. For The Auto Value Super Sprints the show will be the 3rd with veteran Mike Ling winning both the first two races. Drivers from both divisions look forward the challenging the sometimes intimidating track and the event often bolsters a very strong car count in both the supermodified and sprint cars. Several drivers who typically do not race in either sanction have the event slated on their schedule.
At Toledo the more nimble sprint cars have typically been the fastest, but the stars of MSA will be gunning for the quick time coming off a new track record at the Lorain County speedway last weekend. The standing track record for the supermodifieds was set by Chris Perley in 2009 at time of 12.893 seconds around the half mile which is an average speed of 139.7 mph, the sprint car record is held by Charlie Schultz and was set in 2011 with a time of 12.389 second s or a 145.3 mph average for the lap. Come Out to see if the records will fall and hang on for a wild ride.
