Mattwew Brabham won his 5th win in a row, while main championship rival Diego Ferreira finished only 6th. Bar an unfortunate string of DNF/DNS, it's hard to see how anyone could beat him to the title.

It was another very commanding win too. He started on pole, led every lap, set a fastest lap 0.3 faster than anyone else, and won by 9.721 seconds, even though the last green flag run was only 15 laps long.

Juan Piedrahita saved a miserable season with a 2nd place. Team Pelfrey duo Spencer Pigot and Anders Krohn(who won here in 2009) finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

Important race for the front row men, as none of them have won in Lights. A win here could do wonders to put Sage Karam back into championship contention. Sage knows his way around here, having won from the pole in Star Mazda, in 2011. His former Andretti team-mate Zach Veach might be a great ally, serving as a buffer between Sage and his championshp rivals.

Keep an eye on Jack Hawksworth too. He struggled in practice, and needs to find something ASAP on the ovals if he wants to keep the American dream alive.

The race is at 1:00 PM Central. Tape delayed broadcast on NBC Sports Network, at 2 PM.

Formula Ford drivers in the United Kingdom looking to progress their track careers in the USA are to benefit from a fresh link with the renowned Mazda Road to Indy program. Successfully tried in 2012, the incentive scheme will see a driver from the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain selected to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the USA to take part in a free full-day test in a USF2000 Championship single-seater, as well as a further full day’s testing in a Pro Mazda Championship (formerly Star Mazda Championship) car.

http://eformulacarnews.com/news_info.php?n=12574

For the record, British Formula Ford are undergoing a very sad decline right now. Only 9 cars showed up at the latest round at Oulton Park. They are suffering heavily from the concurrence of Jonathan Palmer's brand new MSA F4 championship, the long standing BARC Formula Renault, plus the oversea French F4 and German Formel Masters championships. The new 2013-spec car, featuring a controversial, tradition braking switch to slicks and wings did not improve the situation.

Dan Cammish won 12 races out of 12 so far this season, so logically he should be the favourite for the scholarship. However, he might not be a great candidate for a move to Road to Indy, due to a lack of funds. He has been racing at this level for several years(he was already racing in Formula Ford in 2009, competing against no other than Josef Newgarden), but despite rather convincing results, his lack of funding meant that he couldn't move up the ladder in Europe.

For the record, Antti Buri won the scholarship last year, thanks to his Formula Ford title. He posted pretty competitive lap times at both the USF2000 and Star Mazda tests. Unfortunately, according to Driver Database he isn't racing anywhere this year, even though Sam Roach made in this article the strange claim that the tests were a "major boost for his profile and career".

Published: Wednesday, 12 Jun 2013 | 8:23 AM ETIndia's Apollo Tyres to Buy Cooper Tire for $2.5 Billion

India's Apollo Tyres agreed to buy U.S.-based Cooper Tire & Rubber for about $2.5 billion in a deal that would make it the world's seventh-largest tire maker and reduce its dependence on a slowing Indian auto market.

Apollo, which currently gets two-thirds of its revenue from India, will pay $35 per share, representing a premium of about 43 percent to Cooper's Tuesday close.
Cooper shares were 40 percent higher in mid-day New York trading.
The acquisition of Cooper, the world's 11th biggest tire company with annual sales of $4.2 billion, will give Apollo access to the U.S. market for replacement tires for cars and light and medium trucks.
"The U.S. is an untapped market for Apollo. And the U.S. market is obviously big, and among the developed markets, it is the only one that is growing significantly," said Nishant Vass, auto analyst, at Mumbai-based brokerage ICICIdirect.

Apollo Tyres to Buy Cooper Tire in $2.5B Deal

The acquisition would create the world's seventh largest tire company, reports CNBC's David Faber.

The deal is the latest in a string of big overseas acquisitions by Indian companies in recent years, including Tata Motors Ltd's $2.3 billion purchase of Jaguar Land Rover and mobile operator Bharti Airtel Ltd's $9 billion takeover of the African operations of Kuwait's Zain.
"It is very important for us to expand our horizons. Especially in the long run, the U.S. market is going to look up ... ," Apollo Chairman Onkar Kanwar said.
Indian car sales fell 7 percent in the financial year that ended in March, the first annual fall in a decade, while sales in Europe, Apollo's second-largest market, are at a 20-year low.
But auto sales are one of the bright spots for the U.S. economy. Sales rose more than expected in May as construction workers and oil drillers bought more pickup trucks, and they are expected to remain strong for the rest of the year.
Kanwar has expanded Apollo, which had revenue of $2.5 billion in 2012, after taking control of the company in 2002, following a prolonged public spat with his father, who founded the company in 1976.
His previous acquisitions include South Africa-based Dunlop Tyres International Ltd in 2006 and Dutch tire-maker Vredestein Tires in 2009.
Reuters and others reported in October that Apollo and Cooper were in talks for Apollo to take a stake in the Findlay, Ohio-based company.
Apollo said it would raise $2.5 billion in new debt to fund the deal, of which $2.1 billion would be through the issue of dollar bonds with a tenure of seven to eight years.
The deal values Cooper at 4.4 times the its EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation), which Apollo said was within the range of 3.5 to 6 times multiples seen in recent transactions in the sector.
Apollo said it would launch some Cooper brands in the Indian market, but did not give a specific timeframe.
Apollo shares closed up 2.7 percent at 91.95 rupees in Mumbai trading ahead of the announcement.

Shares of Cooper's larger rival Goodyear Tire & Rubber were up 4.5 percent at $15.27.

Indy Lights needs a big shot in the arm as far as participation is concerned. I think a way to fix this is to take a page out of NASCAR and allow/encourage Indy Car drivers to participate in Indy Lights as well. If this were to happen I see the numbers going up to 16 to 20 cars. This gives the up and comers some competition with veterans of the big cars and the veterans of the big cars an extra chance to race for the love of competition. It would also make Indy lights a more vibrant feeder series.

Plenty of NASCAR stars drive Nationwide as well, why not do the same in Indy Car? I think it's a win win whose time has come.
