I've often wondered why most (all?) Offy-powered roadsters of the late 50's-early 60'sran the exhaust on the left side. Evidently the engine could be configured either way (check out Smokey's 1964 capsule car, which has the exhaust on the right) and as Parnelli (and probably others) proved, having the exhaust pipe on the same side as the fuel cap is a major fire hazard. Additionally, Offies of the late 40s/early 50's seemed to be of varying exhaust configurations -- the Blue Crowns had high right side pipes, the Fuel Injection Kurtis has it underneath the right side.

And the `46 built chassis claimed its second fatality: Chet Miller.

Remarkable enough, even to this day, Chet is still the holder of one of the official track records!
Because nobody ever was faster over 4 laps in qualifying in a frontdrive car then Chet was in 1952.

Few among us will have memories about Chet.
But the above fact still makes him a part of Speedway statistics that likely will never be replaced and/or improved upon.
