Your Favorite Racing Memories & other Blasts from the Past, always welcome here!
Ok boys and girls, show your stuff! Let's see all the old Indy pitchurs you have had downstairs in the basement, out in the garage, under the stairs, in the back bedroom.... Rules: 1) Must be related to Indy (Indy itself, Indy racetracks, Indy people, front engines, rear engined or side...
We want to thank everyone that stopped by this past weekend at the collector show in the Brickyard Crossing basement. It was great talking to everyone. Also, we want to thank those that tried to help identify some of the race tracks on our midget, sprint, and dirt car DVD. We want to especially...

This morning, I was honored to have a PM waiting for me from the Supreme Intardnet Blogger, Mr. Zoomie himself. He suggested that perhaps it would be beneficial to start a blog for the race journals. What a splendid idea! So, at his request, the journals are now available in blog format. ...
The battle is joined. After over a hundred years of racing, the ugly hand of redevelopment looms over the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Mayor Karl Dean seems bent on wiping out a century of history by levelling the Tennesee State Fairgrounds and the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Raceway, site...
What do we know of Parnelli Jones’ famous and historic 1962 qualifying run, the first to officially average over 150mph? My understanding has always been that Parnelli’s real attempt was in fact a shade under 150 mph for the 4 laps, but that Harlan Fengler, er, “corrected” this by ignoring...
I thought I would bring up Jimmy Stewart as it seems there are a few people here that are into aircraft. Most might know he was a WWII bomber pilot but not sure how many know the whole story. Like how he few Missions as the lead bomber pilot and at his orders did not count to his totals. He also...
When was the first time that "stock cars" first drove on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway?
There was a little tidbit in NSSN that I found interesting. "In 1958, Art Bisch qualified for his first Indy 500. "He was involved in the first-lap accident. he is one of three drivers, along with Jerry Unser and Gary Congdon to race in one 500, and not complete a lap. "Bisch's fortunes...
Sir Stirling Moss still has a knack for attracting the ladies. Here he gets a peck on the helmet while sitting in a 250F Maserati. http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/12/2010/07/500x_moss_250f.jpg
Larry Watson has passed away. Some interesting paint jobs he has done. http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/article/Photo-tribute-to-custom-car-legend-Larry-Watson/ --
For a long time I was told that the 1977 winning car (Coyote-Ford Quadcam) was the last ever entirely American designed and built 500 winner and that Johncock's 1982 Wildcat-DFX was the last 500 winner with at least an American designed&built chassis and for that matter at least partly American...

I've been poring over the 1966 Floyd Clymer Indy yearbook I recently purchased (and a humongous THANK YOU to the folks here who advised me to purchase that instead of the other book I was looking at a few weeks back; I intend to try to get some more of these while they're still in circulation). ...
It's 11 on the left coast and so far, no one has mentioned what happened 20 years ago, today. Rich Vogler RIP
from the Brian Redman Vintage Races at Road America, if you've never been, it's amazing. This weekend featured a Mark Donohue reunion with Indy cars, Trans am, F1, IROC, etc. All of his old crew were there meeting and greeting. There were 40 Can Am cars, Indy, F1, Le Mans, anything that's been...

The parents asked the wife and I if they could store some boxes in our shed as theyre preparing to move. (If they can ever sell their current house) This was in one of dads boxes. I dont think hes ever going to build this himself. Im pretty sure I was given this as a Christmas present many...
It's 565 pages and there's something good on every one. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236178
Not sure if any of you will know this, but I won't be surprised if you do, you guys are amazing. I remember Tom Gloy running a yellow Simoniz car at Indy that year. While he did OK in the race, what I really remember is a strange whistling noise that his car made as it went by. I think he was...
Around 1978-1984 Had a pit pass every year, possibly a photographer. You would remember him because of his mustache. It was a good 6-7 inches long on each side, and was so stiff it would not bend in a strong wind. Glistened in the sun since it was probably soaked with super glue.
