I heard that he drove close to the side of the road so he could honk at a retired bus driver.

I thought for sure you were going to say he was hired by CNN, or MSNBC

"Cruising the Mediterranean With Captain Francesco Schettino",
or "Cruise Ship Safety with Captain Francesco Schettino"...
If CNN can keep Wolf Blitzer on the air, I see no reason why
Captain Fran, wouldn't be a hit on CNN...

The guy was one cool individual, right up until he ran aground...
Eating caviar every night, playing Twirl-a-Girl with a different skirt
in every port, drinking the finest wines with the "Cruising Elite"...
Only miss'd his calculations by a nanosecond,,, the boat only
"hip-checked" that rock out-cropping... He went from a
"Super Hero" to a "Complete Zero" in the tick of the second hand...

Big storm headed right at the Costa Concordia salvage efforts...
Hope they have that ship laced to the shore line securely... I see
the recovery effort for bodies, has now been called off... I guess
it's all about salvage now... I still think they will re-float that top
heavy monster, if it does not get blown off the ledge it is sitting on...

Apparently, long before he was a ships captain, he tried his hand at farming

    then he tried truck driving

Followed shortly by a stint flying for Northwest

Not to mention he flunked his helicopter pilot training

then his career as a driving instructor was cut short by this incident

and this little known situation as a ferry boat captain which he obviously didn't include with his resume to the cruise ship company

Tried his hand a laying bricks

which lead to a choice to try his hand at fencing

which should have made him think twice about trying his hand at working with concrete

everyone cringed when he got creative when working with electricity

    Aloha Window,,,

You got to be a real "Devils Island",,, Aficionado...

I just wonder about "Blackie's",,, I use to get parts from Blackie's...
There was also a pretty good marine supply store at Maʻalaea Harbor
in the old days... And another one in Wailuku Town, but Blackie was
the best to get special order parts, or work done, especially for a haole
    like myself...

He was a from the West Coast orginially, and he also did some work
on airplane engines... First time I went to his shop, he was working on
some cylinders off a 985 Pratt... I recognized them right off, I said
something, then talked a little "story" about airplanes, and he warmed
right up... He got me a used impeller for a water pump, until he could
order a new one for me... Got me going again that day, so I stay'd a
loyal customer for the most part when I needed something for da boat...

Did you live on Maui ?

Well, if you knew Blackie's,,, then I guess the Koa Club, Tokyo Club,
and the Volcano Club on Lower Main Street Wailuku Town, might
be some of your old haunts also... LOL I think our dear departed
friend, "Jack the Ripper" was fairly well versed on some of the old local
haunts on "Lower Main"... It's just all changed so much, when I first
started going to Maui, the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina Town was the only
game in town... At least on the makai side for a haole wharf rat like
    myself...

You know, I think Blackie might of opened a bar in Lahaina Town for
awhile, I am not sure now... I have mostly been back on the main land
for the last five years now... I don't want to sell home place, but I might,
and then move to China, if things don't improve here... Couldn't be any
worst, could it, I'd still be a Haole,,, right ??? LOL

    Big

Visited there in 1986. We're going again with the boys next month. I remember the shipwreck theme and that "motto." It just seemed like a bar with a good feel to it. I think we're all Haole's unless original, right?
