I am assuming that Adelson was going to finance the stadium and then leverage that into some percentage of team ownership.

Yeah, I assume that's what Clayton was referring to. Ownership is how you get that seat at the table.

But a casino magnate so intimately involved with the NFL? The popular perception of the league already has enough cracks.

    Are the Jets for sale??

I'll phrase it differently: If they're looking to buy a team and move it to St. Louis, wouldn't it make more economic sense to offer such a proposal to the ownership of the Raiders, rather than the ownership of the Jets?

I don't know. Perhaps it's the circles the Busch family moves in and Davis isn't in that circle. We don't even know if the rumor is true. Johnson is a Trump nominee for Ambassador to Great Britain. I know he's had issues with taxes he didn't pay in the past and that might hurt his chances for the position. Hard to say what transpired to even get that Jets to STL rumor started in the first place but I just don't see the Busch family mingling with Mark Davis at any level.

Mark Davis has repeatedly said the team is not for sale.

Also, one thing to remember when considering Davis giving some ownership to a Las Vegas high roller of sorts, the Busch family, etc. to help finance the construction, Davis doesn't own all of the Raiders. His share is 47%. The key is majority shareholder. Also, I'm sure 50 or so years ago when Al Davis was rewriting ownership agreements, there's a first right of refusal if the other owners try to sell like Kroenke/Georgia had, not to mention if those minority shares vote on nothing. Don't think it's publicly known the percentage breakdown, but whatever percent he would even consider selling of his stake, would be in the amount that does not cross that majority shareholder threshold.

Update on Raiders Financing in Las Vegas

Also, rereading my last post, another point of clarification related to Mark Davis and ownership. He doesn't own roughly 47% of the team. He owns 0% of the team. His mom owns roughly 47%.

Does he run the team from her basement?

Possibly, evidently he has internet access at least as he's able to get a low Boarding Group number, then again maybe C not A?.

He also drives a '97 Dodge Caravan, his mom's? He did trick it out with a VCR.

Clark County is politely questioning the financing,

    4% interest, $650,000,000 30 years is about $38,000,000 a year in payments.

If he's allowed to pay off the relocation fee over 10 years like other recent owners, at 650M, that's another $65,000,000 a year.

Basically Davis, sans other investors, is looking at about $113,000,000 in debt each year. He may need another loan then to come up with the $1 rent he's proposing.

Clark County and the State, besides the $750,000,000 in direct Stadium cost, is looking at $900,000,000 in transportation improvements supposedly needed for the Stadium.

In the end, owners probably approve the move since Davis isn't even talking to Oakland and they're convinced there is no hope there, but still a lot of money issues in Vegas
