    TF Consecutive Streak Polls #1

    Because we have to take a day off to let the Instrumental results filter down,
    Here's a little something I will throw in every week or so for our amusement.
    Not looking for nominations--the list has been compiled

    The question will be:

    Which is the most significant streak in sports history?

    A write in vote for...In 2016, the Carmel High School Girls' Swimming and Diving team won its 30th straight state title. Also, the Girls' Swimming and Diving team holds the national record of the most consecutive state championship titles, inclusive of all girls' and boys' high school sports.

    Good streak for Brandon H.S., but I guarantee you that if they were in Iowa, Ohio, Oklahoma or Pennsylvania, the streak would maybe be 10.

    Can someone explain to me how Cal Ripken Jr. played those games "consecutively" when he took most of 1994 & '95 off with the rest of them?

    Are you talking the strike? As no games were played by anyone--real, replacement or imagined players, the streak remained intact. Had replacement players been used, the streak would have ended.

    So not showing up for work doesn't count against a "consecutive" streak?

    If you worked as a bouncer at some disgusting bar for 10 months and never missed a night your streak would be intact.

    And if after 5 months the bar was closed for four nights because the toilets backed up, but you returned to work the next night it was open and continued to come to work the next 5 months, your streak would be intact.

    It sounds more like if I was the bouncer at a bar for 10 months and arbitrarily decided not to show up for four nights, for no other reason than I didn't think I was getting paid enough, then decided to come back to work and announced that my attendance was perfect anyway.

    No... Claiming that Cal had a streak is silly. Totally bogus used by MLB to gin up interest when interest was beginning to wane.

    BTW I was living in Brandon Florida from 1986 - 1988. It was a big deal then and it was basically just getting started.

    I would have fired you for not keeping the toilets running then complaining about not getting paid enough to do it.

    During his prep and college Wrestling careers, Dan Gable compiled an unbelievable record of 181-1.
    He was undefeated in 64 prep matches, and was 117-1 at Iowa State University.
    His only defeat came in the NCAA finals his senior year.
    Gable was a two time NCAA National Wrestling Champion and three-time all-American and three-time Big Eight champion.
    He set NCAA records in winning and pin streaks.

    So, I assume you will have other polls with other streaks for which we can vote?

    Very close Jim. 181. Or 182. Depending on which side of his website you believe. http://dangable.com/bio/

    I'm inclined to believe 182--and this is high school and college record combined. Doesn't count his international matches or his loss in his final competitive bout to Lee Kemp (a VERY great wrestler himself).

    Not sure if it's considered historic but pretty impressive in this day and age for a Major Conference, how about Kansas just winning or sharing its 13th consecutive Big12 Regular Season title?

    I think it gets overlooked like the Braves run since most of the time, it's ended in an eventual loss and several "underachievements"(Only 5 Elite 8s or better) after winning said title.

    BTW, UCLA's run is 13 also.

    IF you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    ' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
    if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
