California #1, I know this list is a crock

Amen. Geeze Louise, some parts of southeast Kansas make any part of Indiana look like Eden.

EDIT: Which is why we came in dead last. (Next time, 'pidge, read the article BEFORE you comment.)

EDIT #2: NO WAY IN FLAMING HADES should Oklahoma come in ahead of Kansas.

    The key word being 'parts'.
Which is why lists like this are so stupid.

Parts of anything anywhere are more beautiful than other parts of other things other places.f

Going in I figured Utah... You'd think that folks who know about California would also know about Utah. Utah is unworldly beautiful. I was 12 the first time I climbed around the Bryce Canyon with my sketch pad.

If not for the windfarms, Kansas would deserve that ranking. It's almost like Holland, well except for the lack of water, no tulips, the lack of ambiance and no availability of every illegal narcotic drug known to man.

BS. Oklahoma is Kansas without the civilization.

There's a lot of states that have less to offer than Indiana... I took it as just nastiness towards Hoosiers to put Illinois at 48. Like the author was taking out his vengeance.

For years I've thought that one of the greatest things about Indiana is finding out how surprisingly interesting it is to go elsewhere on vacation. 2nd to last seems about right to me. But I do think there are many beautiful parts of Indiana - most of the southern half and definitely the Turkey Run/ Sugar Creek area.

If you go under Indiana, there's a helluva lot of beautiful things to see. Same with Kentucky.

Missouri and Tennessee got jobbed in that list. Clearly somebody's never been to the Ozarks, or to anywhere east of Nashville.

Agree. Of course Kansas isn't really that flat from KC west to a little past Salina. Then it gets really flat.

I've ridden across Florida on my bicycle and I have no luck trying to convince folks that Florida isn't flat. I have a 10 mile trail I ride every day within 5 miles of the Gulf of Mexico with an altitude gain of 155 ft that no one believes until I get them out on a bicycle with me.

Yep, in Missouri the best bet is the St Francois Mountains east of the Ozark mountains. It's the 2nd oldest mountain chain in the US after the Black Hills.
