    Seventhgear.com

During the split, fans of CART could go to the discussion forum www.seventhgear.com. Hey, it's for sale :

The domain name SeventhGear.com is for sale!

Buy this domain name at GoDaddy

    SeventhGear.com: Buy now for $540

This is a one-time transaction for outright purchase of the domain name. After the payment, complete ownership and control of the domain name will be transferred to you. This transaction will be processed by GoDaddy® - the world's #1 registrar. The domain commands a premium price because of its length, wordage, age, memorability, or a combination of these things. Your only future payments will be the annual registrar's fee which depends on the registrar you choose to keep the domain name with (the current registrar, GoDaddy, has a very low annual fee of under $15 per year).

I used to look at that site religiously in the early 2000s during silly season.

after about 3 years I gave up on the split mentality and realized I could watch about 20-25 "indycar" races each year. So I posted at seventh gear as well. Granted had take some stuff with a grain of salt, but seventh gear wasn't nearly as bad as crapwagon

I don't think IRL or IndyCar has ever had a 7-speed gearbox, but CART did around 2002/2003. I seem to recall it being highlighted at best at Montreal at the end of the straight before the last chicane.

Congratulations! You got the point of the name, which was a metaphor for going beyond the regular news coverage.

It wasn’t my first racing forum but I was a very early member there.

I still have a 7th gear hat which I wore to the Gateway race this year.

Franklin’s rocket car, BiF, many memories.

When the place started coming apart, many followed Laguna over to Off Camber. That site is still on-line.

Anyone ever browse 7thgear while at the 19th hole of their country club?

I was thinking that that might have been the point but wasn't sure because A) I never heard of the place before since my English was way **** when it was relevant since I'm on the other side of the ocean and B) it might have been a piece of trivia that I just didn't know, which is why I enjoy reading this forum. Lots of little details that I didn't know before

Oh, and thanks for the 'grats!

Panoz DP-01 and every Lola and Reynard older than 2002. Each of which had 7 gears.

I think Lola had 7 gears as early as 2000.
    Just wait 'till next year!

In short I don't know if this is what you were getting at or not, but yes - Mark C. started Seventhgear.com before moving onto Autoracing1.com

I cut my forum teeth on the old ESPN boards. They were underrated in their decent into cesspool chaos.

I wouldn't call it memorable but that question would stand out a bit.

First racing-related forum I found was RIS on CompuServe.

Did they ever make a jump to the web at some point?

It's not that it's 'boring' but you'd have to know (and remember) your history to appreciate it.
As just one example: Does anybody even bat an eyelash at the fact that this particular forum is known as 'rev-ed's Verizon IndyCar Series'?

Seventhgear was a fun forum until it got infected. To my knowledge, every open-wheel forum has been infected with the exception of Off-Camber.

Seventhgear was a good site and had a lot of great racing fans. I spent a lot of time there and it was nothing like the cesspool that was the old Indystar forums. When it died, a group of them moved to offcamber but that place eventually eroded into a crawagonlight type site. I was as much behind CART as anyone, but when the merger occurred and the drivers and teams put it behind, there wasn’t much reason to continue the fight. For rolling in the gutter, I think smackedforum is still around.
