Those VICS guys have no clue what they are doing in a front engine non aero car. Unless he's coming up from years running the 1/5 and 1/4 mile micro sprint tracks he'll never cut it in TQ's.

I just think it's cool that he did it and cut competitive lap times. Hopefully he'll get to compete in the race next year.

I hope he races with them next year.

Good for Marco, hopefully having some fun in a car (any car) will positively effect his IndyCar success. Enjoying what you do or at least not having it be all stress, all the time can make a big difference in job performance.
Be a better driver, move right except to pass.

Need to change the title of this thread to "TQ Midget Driver to Compete in IICS."

From the the article's first paragraph: "The 12 year IZOD Indy Car Series veteran appeared as a part of the Ironton Telephone Indoor Auto Racing event in Allentown, P.A. on Saturday night."

I was there for the Friday night show but couldn't make it back for Saturday. Would be cool to see Marco give it a try next year.

    Is it May yet ?

That's why I had some fun with it and left his name out of the title.

    And I agree.

"I just want to race as much as possible.”

Isn't that what Mario told him five or six years ago? Paraphrasing, "if you want to be any good at racing you need to race "as much as possible" in just about anything which comes your way". If you aren't racing several times a week during the season you are never going to grow into a good (winning) driver.

Interesting, and how sad it is, that the young guys with access to superior equipment (in this case by virtue of birth) never figure out how to be a racer until it is too late in their careers to matter.

Not saying Marco is overly ambitious to race as much as possible, but how much of this is owner/team/sponsor/manufacturer driven? I'm glad that seems to be loosening up a bit with more guys in different cars like Rolex, LeMans, Sprint Cars, etc. Hopefully it continues. The reason guys like Mario & AJ were so damn good is because they didn't have to worry about 'checking with my owners' (per the article).

Check with their car owner maybe not, but they did have to check with their manufacturer/sponsors. Mario was under contract with Firestone and Ford and they had a lot of say in what he did and didn't do.

If he wants to race midgets there is a little race in Tulsa this week where he could have gotten his fill.

I hope he does more of this. Just making the feature at one of those events would be impressive. Not only do you have several of the best drivers, but there is also a chasis war and tire war going on.

Thanks for the input. I wasn't aware they had much restriction 'back in the day'.
