(Free) tickets now available for Indy 500 '100 Days Out' party

The annual '100 Days Out' to the Indy 500 party is back in 2019, this year being held on Friday, February 15 from 7 to 9:30 PM in the Pagoda Plaza Pavilion. Admission to the event is free but fans need to RSVP here as it did sell out last year.

Guests in attendance include Alexander Rossi, Zach Veach, Marcus Ericsson and "Back Home Again" singer Jim Corneilson. There is normally free pizza and beer!

Approximately two weeks ago that was a question addressed to Curt Cavin on his Trackside Live radio show and based on his response it seems very unlikely. He said that the time demands of his current role with IndyCar makes it difficult to coordinate everything. You could tell by the tone of his voice that it probably won't be happening.

It is a casual event, with cash bar and some munchies like pretzels and pizza, held at the pavilion aside Pagoda Plaza. Doug Boles usually gives a short talk on the upcoming IndyCar season and of course the Month of May. There are usually a few drivers along as well that speak and answer a few questions. This year Alexander Rossi, Zach Veach and Marcus Ericsson will be there along with special guest Jim Cornelison. After that, there is usually an autograph session with those drivers. There is normally access to the Yard of Bricks out on the front straight, and the Borg-Warner Trophy has been available to take photos with.

The walls are built up stone by stone
    The fields divided one-by-one
    And the train conductor says
"Take a break, Driver 8, Driver 8, take a break
We've been on this shift too long"

I went last year and was a bit underwhelmed. Mostly just people milling around, some VIP's talk for a few minutes, huge line to get autographs. You get to hang out on the front stretch and see the Pagoda at night which is cool. I passed on going this year.

I didn’t see the email about this until last Thursday. I clicked on the link to get a ticket for my son and me. It wasn’t even an option. They went fast! Driver 8’s post made me feel better that it wasn’t that I just couldn’t find it. And, BrandonW77, I’ll share your thoughts with my son. He was a little disappointed we missed out.

Only thing is, you FREEZE your butt off in line before hand.

    Otherwise BrandonW77 spot on.

Ohh you get to see the pace car and the Borg up close.

Another fun time at the Speedway last night.
Jim Cornelison did not need his microphone. After a few minutes addressing the crowd he boomed out the National Anthem in a most impressive way. To hear him up close was awesome and the fans went nuts.
Mostly an older crowd, as usual, but I got the biggest kick out of a kid driving the simulator. About six years old, hat turned backwards, hands tight on the wheel. Eyes focused on the screen, sitting as close as he possibly could. His tongue stuck out of one side of his mouth, then the other side, then straight out, then all over again as he wheeled his machine. He was having a blast. Couldn't drive a lick. In the grass, bouncing off walls, going sideways. Yet he earnestly pushed on and it didn't take away his fun one bit. He was DRIVING AT INDY BY GAWD. It was cute and fun and re-affirming.
I gave up my seat to Donald so he sat with us for the night. He knows our race gang and vice versa. Numerous folks would stop to chat. One guy introduces himself, chatted for quite awhile then gave Donald his card. Hmmm, Nick Mates.
Lots of Foreigner and Kool And The Gang kept the vibe up. Shimmy shimmy.
Boles stayed on stage and folks got pictures with him and the Borg. He was good with the fans and gracious with his time.
It's nice little event, complimentary pizza, cheap beer, and fans getting revved up for the season.
Next event for our gang: Sunday March 10, goner Grouper Sandwiches

Oh, I forgot. Rich Vogler's midget car was there. Staring down into the cockpit. Man, brave souls drive those, no place for the faint of heart. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
