2 hurt in 4-vehicle wreck near Troy
CONCORD TWP., Miami County | Two motorcycle riders from Ludlow Falls were injured Friday in a four-vehicle crash on Ohio 55 at Wilson Road west of Troy, the county sheriff's office said.

Cody Hewitt, 21, and Ruthann Myers, 25, were headed west on Ohio 55 at 1:23 p.m. when a car headed east tried to turn left on Wilson and entered their path. The motorcycle slammed into the car, vaulting the riders into a car headed east, sheriff's Sgt. Ben Fisher said.

They hit the pavement several times, with Myers coming to rest beneath an eastbound pickup that had stopped about 70 yards from the crash.

Hewitt, who lost an arm in the wreck, and Myers, who severely injured her leg and arm, were in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

Betty Parrish, 82, who was driving the car, and her passenger, Joseph Parrish, 69, both of West Milton, were taken to Upper Valley Medical Center, where she was treated and released. The hospital had no record of him.

The other driver, Sarena Simpson, 37, of West Milton, suffered minor injuries and was not admitted to a hospital.

Fisher said there was at least some fault on the part of the first car, but that the sheriff's office also was investigating the motorcycle's speed. Both riders wore helmets.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved, from myself and all the other Alley Cats.

When Jack was running at Indy, Cody spent some time with the Alley Cats during the month while his Dad and Mom were busy doing other things.

    Unhappy

Does anyone have the Hewitt's mailing address? I wasn't sure if it was the same one that they have had for awhile or if they had moved.

Man, they sure have gone through a lot of stuff. My prayers and thoughts go out to them.

I'm not sure about the internet "etiquette" on this, but there is a thread on usacfans.com quoting an article in the Dayton news - and the news sounds rather encouraging , though both Cody & Ms. Myers have quite a long road to recovery ahead of them.

    From the Dayton paper.
Hewitt says son recovering well from crash
Cody Hewitt lost arm in motorcycle wreck Friday
    By Greg Billing

    Dayton Daily News

TROY | If Cody Hewitt shares his dad Jack's personality and perseverance, then the younger Hewitt should make a full recovery from Friday's serious motorcycle accident.

Cody — who lost his right arm in the accident that also seriously injured friend Ruthann Myers — was moved out of the intensive care unit at Miami Valley Hospital and is already adjusting with his family.

"He's doing fantastic. He's making jokes and stuff," Jack Hewitt said. "He's stronger than we ever imagined. That's probably from grandpa or his mom."

Jack Hewitt took his share of spills, including a pair of serious crashes in 1993 and 2002, during an ultra-successful racing career that earned him a spot in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. Now he plans to use that experience to help Cody — whose racing career ended before it really had a chance to start — with his long recovery.

"Yeah he had a career, but it just got cut short. He retired before he got hurt in a race car, so that's good," Jack Hewitt said. Hewitt, 21, and Myers, 25, were traveling west on Ohio 55 on Friday afternoon when a car heading east turned left and into their path. The impact sent Hewitt and Myers over the car and onto the pavement.

Myers also had an arm severed in the accident, but it was reattached. Both suffered broken legs and various cuts and scrapes.

"She's just going to take a little bit longer for the mending, but they're both going to be fine," Jack Hewitt said.
