Best Racing Movie Poll for prell5713

What the heck, I was bored.
Take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Superspeedway (Mario Andretti/Paul Newman IMAX Film) deserves a mention, as well.

I make a motion to permanently ban whomever it was that voted for Six Packas best ever

Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

Fast & Furious or whatever it was?

I kinda drew the line at actual race cars.
Also goofed and made it possible to vote for more than one, which I see someone figured out and voted for all of them.

I will second this motion but only if the 2 people who voted for Driven are forced to watch that movie "A Clockwork Orange" style for 24 hours strait.

When Dale quits high school to start driving full time, his father aids him and shows a reluctant pride when he is initially successful. Armed with many of his father's philosophies, Dale pushed himself to be the best. His aggressive track mannerisms earned himself fans and detractors. Fellow racer Neil Bonnett was one of those long time friends and whose death deeply affected Dale. Darrell Waltrip clearly was a detractor and the two men's rivalry is clearly depicted. Off the track, Dale's determination to make it impacts two marriages. Third wife Theresa was closer to racing and met Dale when he had started his rise into the Winston Cup circuit. The story also looks at his relationship with his children, particularly son Kerry from his first marriage and whom he did not see again after age 5 until Kerry in his late teens showed up to meet his father again. Similar to his own father, Dale drove Dale Jr. to be the best, including temporarily sending him to military school when his grades slipped, but like his father, Dale Jr. only wanted to race. Contains mild profanity.

I voted for Grand Prix because a) Yves Montand was dishy (I know, he dies ) b) Maurice Jarre did the music (which he also did for "Dr. Zhivago"...one of my all-time favs ) c) the racing sequences are cool and d) ditto the split screens.

Thanx for posting all of that, Outlaw. I didn't vote for it because modern times have improved much of what can be presented, but I've watched The Big Wheel a couple dozen times and for an oldie but goodie, it can't be beat, IMO.

Grand Prix gets my vote, Le Mans was a close second. I'm wondering if the folks who voted for 'Driven' misunderstood this as a "worst racing movie ever" poll.
For the record, I never had a problem with CART in 1995. Its when they turned beligerant twards IMS and their fans for supporting the IRL that turned me off them.

I feel that the six that voted for "Driven" be suspended for an undetermined amount of time. What is wrong with you people.

What's wrong with you guys, how is Le Mans running such a distant second? I was already a racing junkie 9-year-old or so when I just stumbled onto this on the ABC Thursday night movie or something. I didn't blink for two hours.

Ever run back the Sarte Grand Prix crash frame by frame? Ol' JP--well, the dummy--is bailing before the car even gets to the guardrail. Ah, theatrical license.
Happiness is Friday morning, Road America, first session, rolling down pit lane, course is clear, we are green!

TCM showed The Crowd Roars (1932) this morning. Action shots with riding mechanics! And hurt drivers having their ambulances race to the hospital after THE 500!

James Cagny as racer Joe Greer who goes from the penthouse to the outhouse after a wreck in which a competitor dies. He decides he's Yellow and can't do it anymore, but a little lady gives him hope and an untimely flat tire late in THE 500 gives him the chance to sub in the best car in the field. A late wreck by a competitor brings the Yellow streak back to the surface, but when he tries to quit his riding mechanic stands on his foot pushing the car to the front. Will he hang on to win? You'll just have to rent the movie to find out.

    Hmmm, let's see.

    This: Grand Prix

    Or This: Driven
