Robin Miller - Titanic Time for Champ Car

    Titanic Time for Champ Car
Written by: Robin Miller Indianapolis, Ind. – 1/18/2008

    ...

I think I hear Celine Dion singing that song as the bow thrusts upward and the ship sinks into an icy grave. We don't have any big icebergs here in Central Indiana but it's Titanic time for Champ Car.

    ...

Is the IRL some super series with big benefits, strong leadership and a bright future? Only when compared to Champ Car.

I get the impression that KK will sleep well tonight, enjoy his weekend and not make too many calls concerning his part-time hobby being in a flux. I have no doubt that he has a contingency plan for LB and Cosworth.

And, oh by the way, nobody has been paid any of their paltry prize money from 2007.
    Seriously???

I guess that's one way to keep teams from bolting to another series mid-offseason.

Champ Car and the IRL need to merge.

I just thought I'd throw that out there for some laughs.
IRL 2009: "Cars you can't see, driven by drivers you have never heard of, on a network you don't get"

"I'd hire your grandmother, if she brought a budget"- Bankrupt Indy Car team owner Tyler Tadevic, to Curt Cavin in December, on the tough standards he looks for when "hiring" driver talent.

At least, you (and most of us) get it, tbyars!

C'mon, Jimmy. You're intelligent enough to know it IS good for the sport.
(and yes, I do think you're intelligent...when you choose to be )

I think it is funny that the only time Miller mentions the Indy 500 as something to be desired, or says the ICS is blessed with "strong management" is when he points out that the ccws doesn't have something to equal it. The rest of the time Miller doesn't have a positive thing to say about Indy, Tony George, or his management team. Anyone know where I can find a 2-faced icon?
It's always been about the Indy 500!
I realize I have the right to remain silent, but don't have the ability or enough common sense to do so.

    Read it again please.

When compared to anything else, it has poor leadership and a bleak future. He's using his one-face.

Maybe you should read it again. Mack Too picked up on the following:

The bottom line is that their current business model cannot succeed. They pay to be on television, they promote and own races, they have no identity in the U.S. media, they have no sponsorship to speak of, they don't have the Indianapolis 500, they must fund other teams and they have no game plan (oh yeah, they're going after that Far East market, I forgot).
Mack's post was clear and direct and for those of us that did read Miller's article, we understood the point RM made with the "500" reference. Mack has made a clear point, too. He's right.

The article wasn't about Tony George or the IRL. Do you get upset whenever Robin writes an article about the IRL when he dosen't talk about CCWS?

Except the part where he claimed RM said the ICS is blessed with "strong management". He didn't, he quite clearly said the opposite.

And I don't recall RM ever having said the Indy 500 wasn't a big asset for the IRL.

But other than that, yeah, spot on.

Mr. Miller, do some research, the Titanic went down by the bow. It was the stearn that was upended.

I usually don't read a word Miller writes, but I am interested in what is happening with the ccws now, and unlike others here, I realize that there are some ccws fans here that are faced with losing the series and racing they love, I feel for them. Miller is consistent in the fact that he can find little good to say about anything. I'm sorry I wasted the time to read his comments, but I should know better, I usually am sorry I read his "stuff."

Mackie, I know what you mean. But I found that everything he said about ChampCar in the piece was correct. And it is said because its former shell (CART) was all something we as fans watched when it was the Indy Car series.

Very sad what is going on over there, but, business is business.

You're right, Miller correctly pointed out before that CC is so ridiculously inept that they should have sold off to TG and stopped being ridiculous. That was last year, wasn't it? Too bad that they didn't get the message. Now, that is being "spot on."

What's the real reason RM wants CC to go away?

So he can focus his efforts on poisoning the series that remains with his bitter rants?

Agreed. I find he's been spot on ever since he stopped taking money from ChampCar.

The day OWRS set out on it's trip, one journalist called it "stupid money". I don't remember who it was. But it did not take an IVY League observation to know that Otte made a wrong ruling and KK and GF were heading into battle with Custer.

TG said on that very day the cliche, "be careful what you wish for, you might just get it". Now even TG is sounding profound today.

I wouldn't worry too much. Nobody outside of TF and CCF reads anything he writes anymore anyway.
