Holy Cow. I seen Miles on Georgetown Rd. last weekend around midnight, cuttin' the rug with two pretty girls young enough to be his granddaughters! You should have seen the smile on his face!
RIP, race fan.

Miles was so kind to send me a tape of the 2004 500, since the weather played havoc with the broadcast. It was always a pleasure to read his posts. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends; and Godspeed, Miles.

You Know what Indy Means!!!!
"I think of Indianapolis every day of the year, every hour of the day, and when I sleep, too. Everything I ever wanted in my life, I found inside the walls of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I love it all, from the first to the last day in May. The moment that race starts is always the greatest moment of my life, and the day I win that race, it will be as if my life has ended. There is nothing more I could want out of life."
- Eddie Sachs."
We remembered Mackie in our pre-race invocation here at the Fairgrounds tonight.

TTE, that is awesome. I wish I was there to have shared the moment. Miles told me several times that the Fairgrounds track was a favorite of his. I took some pictures one day a couple of years ago on a quite afternoon of the track and sent them to him. I was all over the track, too. She is a pretty one. I think I'll take my son out there next week. See you then.
John
Thank You everyone for the beautiful tribute to Miles. Michael Jimmy(brother) and Amber(daughter in law) and Sandie (daughter) are currently in Wendover. Hopefull I will be joing by Tuesday. Michaels mother Joanne is currently in the hospital.
It's always been about the Indy 500!
I realize I have the right to remain silent, but don't have the ability or enough common sense to do so.
Wow!
I always liked his views on IndyCar racing, he was a true fan.
I enjoyed his web site too.
RIP Miles.![]()
Well said. I had butted heads with him before also and then moved my life in a different direction.Originally Posted by JoeBob

For the last several years I have helped take care of an extended family member with alzheimers. He cannot even remember what he loved most days. I would much rather leave the world the way Mackie did than the way that indvidual will leave the world.
My best to Miles' family. When we did talk, they were his favorite topic, even more than Indy.
Just saw this now. I am shocked and deeply saddened. We'll miss you, Mackie.![]()
I'm a relatively new poster here, threw out a plea for info for St Pete this year, and Miles was quick to reply. Shared emails and pms' with him, sent him some pics at Indy this year before he could get out (which proudly appeared on his website). Having known so little about him, and shared so little time, my best judge of the man is the company he keeps here, and the overwhelming number of tributes to him. I count myself among the lucky online friends, and am glad for my time with him, albeit short. Had just sent Miles a message last week, sorry I missed you at camp and brew, will have to catch up in Milwaukee, Mid-Ohio, Chicagoland...
God Speed Miles, thrilled for you that you could see your passion reunited at Indy this year, and God Bless your family, friends, all those you held close...from the pure numbers of people here, you were a rich man indeed!
IndyCar racing and I have lost a good friend. Miles will be missed by many. I truly enjoyed his wisdom, his insight, and his website. God Bless You, Miles

Here is some news about the service for Miles that was shared by Michael at O/IRR:
Dad's service in Wendover is on Thursday at 10 am. It will be at Toana Vista Golf Course in West Wendover NV. Thanks everyone for all your support.
Thanks for posting this. Prayers and love to Miles' family tomorrow and the coming days.
It really IS all good!
I hadn't talked to Miles much since '04 when I quit making all of the races. But it's funny, I'd see him and we would pick up where we left off, just as if I had spoken to him the day before.
When I showed up at Camp and Brew on Thursday before The Race we said hello and shared a laugh about a thread on this forum. He grinned and it was on like an old pair of shoes.
I'll miss that.
And Dick Ralstin will be keeping them all honest.Originally Posted by sf-indy-fan

I've only just noticed this, I didn't know his real name. Wow, he was posting right up to when I went on holiday. This is just horrible news. RIP.![]()
It's really incredible reading these posts and seeing how much Miles meant to so many people. Sorry I never got to meet him.
I, too, enjoyed his posts and his passion.
We will miss him. All the best to Miles' family.
RIP, got to meet him at Camp 'n Brew. He was great with the ladies walking by....
RIP Miles...he was one of the good ones.
The transformation is complete. The Indy 500 is the only IndyCar race that matters.
Praying for the family and friends. We will all be together on the other side one day.
It is hard to image but life does get better with time. I felt like punching someone that told me that after John passed away, but it is true.
Thinking of you in your hard times.

Our deepest regards go out to Grandpa Miles family. Indy will never be the same without him. We've had many... many memeories that we will always cherish! He was and always will be a landmark on Georgetown Rd.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.....

Grandpa, Everyone has their time But why did yours have to come so soon? There are so many people in the world So why did God have to pick you? They say things like this make you stronger But how can that be? I feel so weak inside It all feels like a dream I didn't get to see you You passed away too soon But I feel you watching over me And someday I'll see you again -Andrea Nickel-![]()
