Why are they blaming the surface of IMS - the surface has not changed the last few years. Goodyear tested in April, there was no open testing, a new kind of vehicle - and they seem to be trying very hard to embarass the Speedway.![]()

Witnessed Mario's "Miracle at Indy"...Watched 3 win their 4th Indy 500...Was there for Petty's 200th win...Saw the last Novi qualify
What has surprised me is the this thread is the very first on this subject. Tomorrow should be fun. Ah, the crying we'll here.
The COT.
One of the few things the Indy Car series has going over NASCAR.
They have Firestone and NASCAR gets that crap from Goodyear.
IRL 2009: "Cars you can't see, driven by drivers you have never heard of, on a network you don't get"
"I'd hire your grandmother, if she brought a budget"- Bankrupt Indy Car team owner Tyler Tadevic, to Curt Cavin in December, on the tough standards he looks for when "hiring" driver talent.
Is it my HD TV or do the cars look like they crab down the straights? Maybe the problem is thier set ups to get the pig to turn.
and then there is WGASA!
"Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved
body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting
"...holy $^!+...what a ride!"
>
No, Jim, it isn't your TV. They've gone back to that for Indy - supposed to help them turn into the corner. But now I'm wondering, since they have to actually turn into the turns, rather than let a banked track turn the cars, is that causing more tire wear?Originally Posted by Niseguy

There shouldn't be problems tomorrow, afterall Goodyear did have a test there this year to figure out which tire to use. What't teh point of a tire test if you pick a crap compound for the race.
So will there be another laziness... err, competition yellow tomorrow after 30 laps?

Different men, from vastly different backgrounds, focused on the same goal – a white line painted on a yard of brick 500 miles ahead.

Ah, here we go. NASCAR is consider one or more "competition" yellows to check tire wear...

The tires a concern almost every year for the Brickyard. Doesn't matter if its the Carra Tomorra or whether its the old car.Originally Posted by TM1511
Again, thank goodness for Firestone.
A Goodyear tire test is 4 cars who aren't going to show up with their most extreme setups. What they then need to do is have a general test for all the teams, so they know how that compound will wear. Going full time CoT this year there should have been testing at all new CoT tracks. (I think they should move the NW race to IMS so there's more cars to put rubber down.)Originally Posted by Ann Dretti
How does Goodyear keep losing their track information from year to year.
The way the media (and fatass Jimmy Spencer) are covering this, you'd think the diamond grinding just happened last week instead of four years ago.
There is no reason for the tires to be this far off.
Sorry Mr. Ralstin, Goodyear has become the
Worst
Racing Tire Company
Ever.
Worst Post Ever!
I heard on the radio that they're gonna have comp yellows at 10 and 20. Most cars can only go 6-8 before the threads are showing. Also mentioned that teams are allowed to use the Pocono tires, which are a much harder compound (but not tested at Indy).
Try watching the SPEED pre-race show...then if the viewer didn't know the real story, there's no way you could have figured it out by the way they were talking.Originally Posted by TM1511
The most recent diamong grinding was done in April 2005. Over three years ago. The SPEED guys are out on the track zooming in on the grooves saying stuff like "IMS did this..." But they never tell you that they did it 3 years ago, and Goodyear, et. al., have no excuse for not being prepared for it.
Of course Jimmy Spencer is out saying Goodyear is the "greatest" in the world...so you know what their intentions are...(defend at all cost)
Ray Evernham just really broke down what the problem is and to me it sounds legitimate. With the "old" car, the teams were able to set the car with X pounds more on the left side so that when X pounds of weight shifted in the corners, then the weight was equal across the car going through the corner. The CoT rules prohibit setting up a car that way and on the pad, all four corners must support the same amount of weight. This means that the right side tires are getting X pounds more getting through the corner.
Even though this theory makes sense, there is so no excuse for NASCAR and Goodyear not being ready for it. Blaming the track, which as Doc said was repaved and diamond ground three years ago, is bu!!*****.
So I gather that the fact that the settup of the COT makes it look like it's trying to go three directions at once on the straightaways isn't affecting the tires. That's good to know.![]()
Jimmy Spencer then went on a rant about Hoosier tires and the tire war way back in 1994. Which has nothing to do with the current situation...just like the cable news shows....seemed he felt going on a tangent was better than telling people what the real problem was and answering the real questions.Originally Posted by pdalbey

That would be hysterical!!![]()
Where is Hdolan on this? This non race is sad. Should be called the tire change 400, sponsored by the Safer barrier.

This one is about as bad as 1996...remember when they put tacks down to hold the sod in the turns...cars were driving below the line, kicking up the tacks, and blowing tires all day.

This is a joke.
Whether you like NASCAR or not, this is pretty embarrassing for so-called "major league" racing.
Goodyear ought to be embarrassed (again).
It's a shame Tony Stewart took such a beating after the Atlanta race for crushing Goodyear, but they deserved it then and deserve it now.
The sad part about this is that IMS is likely to be blamed here. NASCAR won't admit that more testing was needed and that Goodyear dropped the ball.
This is almost as silly as the F1 Michelin tire fiasco at Indy.
This is getting pretty big. When Petry says it's the worst he's seen that's saying something.
Goodyear sux. Thank you Firestone
