World Superbike Championship - the new premier series??

I've always been a massive fan of the World Superbikes. Partly because what they ride is production derived (sort of) and that often it has closer and better racing than MotoGP.

This year, MotoGP is down to under 20 bikes with Kawasaki pulling out, and only 4 manufacturers.

The Superbike grid is around 30 bikes with 7 manufactures (Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Aprillia, BMW). Two races per weekend (each 100km). More diversity (1000cm 4-cylinders and 1200cc twins)

I've always watched both but the MotoGP has always been the F1 of bikes.

MotoGP were always faster and more powerful, but only around 1.5 - 2 seconds a lap quicker. With the MotoGP droping to 800cc the superbikes have become more powerful, and with MotoGP going to a control tire in 2009, that will probably take away that 1.5 second gap.

I'm not so sure now you couldn't say that World Superbike isn't the new F1 of bikes.

Have to agree with you on that. I'm also a huge fan of WSBK and have always preferred it to Moto Gp since I went to see Edwards, Haga and Co. at Brands Hatch in 2000. Been watching the races on the WSBK website, fantastic stuff, and it should be even better with BMW in the fray with two veterans.

Whos your pick for the title? I'd say its hard to bet against Haga.

Yeah, Haga on the Ducati will be very tough to beat. If there is one thing I don't like about WSBK, its that the rules tend to favour Ducati a bit.
