abc was at Ontario. Whether they showed the last part live, or later on WWOS, they were there.

IMS radio did the radio broadcast and Sid and Freddie were there. So I would assume it exists.

Plus I proposed a IMS Video department, where You could walk in, order your favourite 500 on DVD or CD for radio broadcast and recieve it. Adding the CART and other USAC stuff which the speedway owns and has would be great too.

Don't worry, all of the CART stuff, and looks like the surviving abc USAC stuff still exists and resides in the hands of the IMS.

    best,

    Larry

Someone at this forum once posted that he had reel to reel of a radio broadcast of Ontario 1970 but didn't know how to transfer it.

Boxing closed-circuit telecasts have survived over the years which is why I would like to think that somehow the tapes of the 500 broadcasts wouldn't have been discarded so quickly after the event.

On the 1970 USAC dirt races that are out, ABC doesn't indicate that they're going to be doing any coverage of Ontario. I can only assume that whatever they showed was long after the fact on a WWOS but they weren't plugging it as a live broadcast when they posted the upcoming schedule during the Springfield race.

Would 1970 Ontario have been the first non-Indy 500 race the IMS network did or are there other races they're known to have done before that?

In my race film of the Ontario race, someone in a suit, with a abc microphone is talking to the winner, who it is I don't remember.

The radio broadcast most likely would of been the first none 500 broadcast the network did. The Speedway were VERY instrumental on making that race happen. Not as much with Pocono, but their presence was there as well.

Hey folks I've been reading the outstanding book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans and in the credits author A.J. Baime thanks an ABC Sports employee for fishing out all of WWoS' 60's Le Mans coverage so he could watch it. I think this proves that EVERYTHING we want is probably still all there. Will it ever see the light of day again?

I know this is a terrible bump but let me answer this.

So far I "only" have 1967 (around 1 hours and 10 minutes) and 1969 (38 minutes - does include the last two laps live. It is as thrilling as everyone says it was!). I also have the 1966 Sebring 12H race as shown on ABC (in color!).
From French TV is quite more available: 1965 (Finish, 48 minutes), 1970 (Finish, 25 minutes), 1971 (Finish, 45 minutes), 1972 (Finish, 43 minutes), 1975 (Start & Finish, 52 minutes total).

If memory serves me right (its been a while since I saw both Le Mans videos!) in the '67 broadcast they discuss that this is the first time they show a race live from overseas.

If anyone has the missing years, please let me know
