If this is true.........then what?
RM speculating about layoffs, selling planes, etc. is somewhat over exaggerated. What company in America right now isn't cutting back?
For speculation purposes..........what if Humpy Wheeler is named CEO at IMS?

The IRL IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway should be run separately.
It sounds to me that the board of directors are looking at the financials and seeing a separation of running the IndyCar Series and IMS a necessity.
I am kind of traditionalist here and have always thought more of the Indy 500 than the series, but understand the need for the series to start making a profit.
Instead of investing money in Saturn, it would be nice to let the Captain purchase the entire series or IMS, in my opinion.
I was a little bit demoralized on the last laps, but I saw on the last lap that he was driving a little bit carefully, and I thought I might be able to surprise him. It was risky, but it worked." --Alex Zanardi, 09/08/96
MY BIGGEST FEAR....open wheel as we know it starts to go away, Humpy Wheeler moves in and moves Nascar to Memorial Day Weekend.
Racing as I know it dies...
Say what you want about TG, but he wants to grow this sport. I don't want a Nascar guy brought in....well, I don't think I do. If he were to come in and bring Nascar Marketing to IndyCar racing, so be it....I just fear that the people who are worried about their inheritance are just looking at the $$$, and will sell out to the highest bidders
Phone's ringin' dude...Thanks Donnie...
That's exactly what I think will happen.Originally Posted by goldie19

Humpy is not a NASCAR guy, he is a promotions/marketing/racing guy and a darn good one.
Wow - this is Earth-Shattering news!!!
I'll make a wager. For charity of course.Originally Posted by FLB

How many years do we wait to see who wins. Pick a number, 3? 5? Ten?
I'll lay a hundred bucks. You win $800. For your favorite charity.
I'm only stunned that it came now after all these years and so much damage to the sport.
Obviously mom and the sisters are fed up with it finally. I wonder if he was trying to get the F1 race back and needed them to approve more $$$.
Moving NASCAR to Memorial Day weekend makes no sense. We think we are the only ones who have traditions? So does the NASCAR crowd and the 600 is a huge tradition on what has become the greatest race day of the year.Originally Posted by FLB

"My favorite time of the day at the Speedway during the month of May was just after dusk, after the track had closed down for day, I used to go out and sit on the pit wall and just listen and think"~ Dick Ralstin
I for one would be disappointed if Wheeler was named to run the Speedway, he maybe a great promoter but he cares not for the tradition. This is the same guy that said IndyCars would never run at Charlotte again while he was there and wanted to put fenders on them.
Is it May yet ?
Caution...
Having been an officer in a company reporting to a Board of Directors, a resignation has to be accepted by said board. For all we know, Tony has decided not to run the track anymore and focus on running the series and his team. He may have decided that doing everything was way too much, and a facility head, someone who runs tracks as a business, might be the better way to go.
I doubt Miller has any clue about how these things work. What you are reading is the interpretation of a writer, who is not a business person.
FWIW, I checked every Indy news source and there is nothing out there unless I missed it.
After a buyout, I decided to leave to start my own company. I resigned, and it was voted on (obviously they did what I asked) but in the board minutes it reads that they voted on my resignation. Who knows how Miller might intrepret something like this?
I'd hang on and wait to see if it shows up via another news source, maybe Inside Indiana Business for example, or the Indianapolis Business Journal, or even the Star.
Anyway, don't lose your water until a more reliable source appears.

Many will think it's good news; but even though I'm far, FAR from a TG fanboy; it would seem to create a lot of instability that the series doesn't need.
Also, removal effective immediately or end of fiscal year?

holy s#$%THIS IS HUGE
It will be interesting to see the press release from IMS about this.
This is big. Would Humpy be a decent candidate to run the speedway?
"While things were not as rosy as the CART fanatics recall, neither were they as dire as the IRL fanatics would have you believe." - Don Capps
Well there's part of the problem gone. But he's still involved with the ICS. I say let him keep his "vision" team as a hobby but that's it.
Apparantly there is a limit to the amount of huge disastrous mistakes you can make before someone takes action. Next on the chopping block; Barhart.
$600,000,000.
To ensure that the Indy 500 would not become a two-weekend event dominated by the same old teams with international drivers.
Well, that worked.
