    Dover Race Day Thread

Watching the pre-race, I just had to start the thread with this: We just can't get rid of Fox soon enough!!

Hope I didn't corrupt the day for anyone.

I agree which is why I didn't watch it - listened to MRN on the computer.

Some will, no doubt. But for many, the Fox coverage is easily the worst. I might not always like some of the things the other networks do, but Fox actually impacts the frequency and amount of time I watch with their horrific coverage. With such a long season, I can get my fix after they are done for the year.

Welcome home. How do the fly-over states look from the ground? Any tornadoes?

Kurt Busch rockets from 19th up to 10th in 17 laps. Passing Hornish who started 12th. But Sam is running well in 11th. Edit: Now 9th and tenth 10 laps later. Both running top 8 speeds. Busch once in awhile the fastest on the track.

No, but I did get hit by a "dust devil" over by Winnemucha that damn near blew me off the road. I saw it coming about a half-mile away and was prepared.

I don't know what he did, but Sam just said, "Sorry 'bout that. My bad".

I think it's great that the teams are able to get around NASCAR's rules against on track handling adjustments by the driver by using the cooling fans to adjust tire pressures.

Who says there's no innovation in "spec" series?

As far as the race goes,it looks like Jimmy Johnson is stomping them.Nice to see Kasey Kahne doing well!

  12. #12
Uh oh...Did Jimmy get caught a lap down because he was in the pits when the caution came out?

I have no idea. I was away for awhile. He's still in 9th. Oops. Now 30th two laps down? Did he fail to pit, or somehow blow up something or wreck?!! Did he enter the pits while they were closed?

gahhhhh! Leave for five minutes and Sam's race falls apart!

Kurt Busch also. Went from fourth, to 24th, one lap down...

There was a "debris caution" while green flag pit stops were going on.Alot of good cars got caught in the pits...

Yeah, I can see they are all fouled up. Sam may be only one lap down and only have a couple cars ahead of him on that lap? If so, he could recover. I can't tell from the scoring. And I am away from the tube for a short while.

I see now where Kurt Busch cut a tire and pitted early.

Let that be a lesson to all! When Robby Gordon is having a good run, DO NOT pit with him under green! There WILL be a debris yellow!

Goodyear strikes again...Montoya cut a tire...

However,it does allow alot of those cars that were close to a lap down to catch up.Ans NASCAR gets to use their super track blowers to ruin the racing groove again...

Sam has lost all of his early speed. Tooling around in 29th. Maybe the crew chief forgot which way to adjust the tire pressures again?

Bush and Stremme are both about 3 tenths faster, whereas Sam was much faster than Stremme for the first 100 laps. Sam's car maybe went sour.

Got his speed back. Running very well in 21st. Yellow lap 330. Sam may be the lucky dog and be back on the lead lap. Not sure.

Edit: Nope. Plus got buried behind a bunch of others on the pit stop. Still one lap down, but now 26th as they go green. Grrrr.

Oh well. I guess I should follow some good racing up front, instead of Hornish way in the back

I subscribe to PitCommand, and always listen to Sam, the Biff, Rowdy and the Officials Channel on two separate computers.

Hmmm. I've never subscribed to that. I think I will. The IRL timing and scoring has me so cheezed-off that I think I'll watch and listen to more NASCAR. Usually when they race at the same time I watch the Indycars. Before today...

Sounds awesome to be able to divide up between more computers and thus handle listening to more.

Wow. I don't know how they did that. They had speed again but were a lap down. Must have stayed out on a yellow and I missed it. I quit watching for a bit to do my complaining over on the IRL board, LOL.

I saw he was gaining hard on Earnhardt for 12th. Wonder how that would have gone over with The Nation.

That was a good run to salvage that finish.

The above is from the Penske website. He was only pitting a few laps early anyway, though.

Even the Penske website says two laps down, but by the time they cycled through after the yellow he was just one and almost a second laps down, as he and about five others restarted in front of the leader Jimmy Johnson, so as long as they stayed in front of him they were one lap down. Sam and several others managed to do that until the next yellow and so were one lap down.
