This might be a stupid question, but can someone tell me what the difference is between a Ford and Chevy Cup engine. Are they required to use the same parts?

Does anyboby know? Help!
No. Chevy uses NASCAR approved Chevy parts. Ford uses NASCAR approved Ford parts.Originally Posted by Bill Wicker

The engine designs are different as well. Many of the parts used may come from the same supplier of aftermarket parts, but probably most of the parts are not interchangeble.
Some people will do nearly anything in order to be able to not do anything.
Thanks Guys
They are like the COT...they look the same, but have a few slight differences...
the name on the rocker covers!![]()

Obviously when building to a "formula" things come out similar, but there's NO cross pollenation.
I know they are of "different" manufacture, but I am sure if you looked at the heads, cranks, pistons and intakes side by side, you would see very little difference. I have done so.Remember these are extremely limited, regulated, and almost spec engines.
Actually the rocker covers, heads and intakes are pretty distinctive. To an engine builder the cranks might be too. Pistons, rods, bearings, camshafts, valves and valve springs would probably all look the same to most people though.Originally Posted by cbreez99
Before the Chevy SB1 the heads were very distinctive as the Chevy engine had the two center exhaust ports siamesed (sp). The original small block Chevy was designed in the mid 50s, while the Ford and Mopar came along later. The Toyota being a from scratch racing only engine was able to "borrow/steal" the best from the existing designs.
The new Dodge engine is reportedly 25 lbs lighter than last year's model. With that kind of variation in one manufacturers engines, you can imagine the differences between manufacturers.
Officer Mitchell, I thought you said you didn't want to have to come back here this evening.
