    Bruno

I saw Borat and laughed as well as groaned...
...but something tells me this is more of the same, so I think I will pass this time.

I didn't like Borat and I won't be seeing Bruno.

I cringed all through Borat, plus I suspect that we already heard the funniest line from the movie in the preview...

Co-worker saw it over the weekend. Said it was just too far over the top and that too many scenes contained images that her and her husband simply didn't need to see. She said that it's not even 90 minutes long but that it felt like forever. Said it was the first time she thought of asking for her money back but she knows it was her decision to see it in the first place. Her and her husband are not prudes, but the movie was just too much.

Sounds like my review of Borat... I guess his goal is to make the viewer uncomfortable, in which he's right on target. Just not sure how funny that is.

    I will pass.

I did like Borat, but this one just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I only make it to the theatre maybe 3 times a year. I try to be real picky as a result.

Rented Gran Torino over the weekend finally, Clint still has it.

I think the degree of comfort corresponds with the natural empathy one has for others.
If you don't give a baby ruth about how others feel you will probably find this effort hilarious.
But sometimes comedy is like throwing balloons in a crosswind---and edgy comedy into a hurricane.

I grew up watching reruns of the 3 Stooges, Little Rascals, Monty Python, etc. and I must admit it has affected me thru out my life.

I can't sit at a formal dinner without thinking about starting a food fight. Or reminding a friend to "remind me to Moider you later".

I have books about the 3 stooges. I consider them classics. I get a kick out of Ali G. I watched Borat and found parts of it really funny and parts of it uncomfortable. I think he's better in small doses.

He could be a one trick pony.

I didnt see Borat and have no desire to see his latest.

but the film recepits for this past weekend showed a killer opening on Friday, followed by a noticeable drop off on Satruday followed by another drop on Sunday.

word of mouth may be making this movie a 2 week wonder.

Here are 3 quotes about Bruno from today's American Voices column in...
The Onion.... America's Finest News Source

The first one is perfect, and true.

"Oh, that Sacha Baron Cohen. He's totally unpredictable. You never know what to expect from him unless you've seen all his other work." - Paul Gillespie, Systems Analyst

"I don't think making fun of gays is funny, unless my pal Randy does it. He's really good at it." - Priscilla Smith, Inventory Manager

    and finally

"I have Sacha Baron Cohen to thank for revealing the severe shortcomings and outright petty prejudices I and others share. I will now use this new self-knowledge to improve myself as a person, and be better to those around me." - Will McCaffrey, Guest Services Representative

He's already more than that. Ali G (his best work) and Bruno and Borat on his TV shows were all funny and quite clever.

I watched the first 15 minutes of his Ali G movie the other day, but had to run, it was pretty funny.

He had a bit on his show where he interviewed a real life police officer on his "show" and the officer was showing him all these illegal weapons that they had confiscated over the years.

Ali G said " like if I wanted to buy some of that, where would I go and how much would it cost". The officer kept telling him, no this is illegal, and Ali G said " I get that it is illegal and all that but where would i buy them?".

It was funnier than it sounded.

    Better than Borat.

He makes fun of idiots, and people that will do anything for camera time. Priceless.

Still too much "staged" footage. I liked the original show best. The chick at the Swingers party was obviously staged. She was probably his ticket to get in there with a camera crew.

Many laugh out loud moments for me, and quite honestly, this guy has more guts than most documentary film maker I have seen. He could easily have been killed a half-dozen times during the movie , and not just by ******* Americans.

I dug it. But I'm not overly-sensitive or PC, and basically think all of the things he targets are jokes anyway.

The part of his "network effort" that was being focus-group screened where his member basically "spoke" his name had me crying.
"Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and your going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down." -- Edward Blume

    Not even close.

There is so much lowbrow humor that will be missed by the typical American idiots that will go to see this. The outrageous stuff will get all the ink, but the lowbrow genius in some of his pranks are the real gift.
