"Run out of pictures"? Trust me, I don't think Sneva33 will ever run out of pictures. Going to Indy/other races for the last 32yrs(and still counting), there will be alot more pictures to be posted.

It's Phil Caliva in his 83 March. Unfortunately, this was in 1984 and the old Marches generally didn't work at all on the 1984 Goodyears. Phil put this team together and borrowed and raised the money himself; his family was from Sicily so that's where the American Dream name came from. There was also a new 1984 March that Phil was supposed to run but he somehow got moved aside by his brother-in-law (who was in on the money raising and spending side of the deal) in favor of Pancho Carter who made the race. Phil took nearly ten years to pay back everyone that he had borrowed money from in full. And he and his brother-in-law are still not on speaking terms.

Thanks, I took the shot but I didn't know the story. Great story . I remember that year, he just didn't have the speed.

That's the start of the first Molson Indy Toronto in 1986 I think.

It seems like the photographer is standing in the middle of the pit lane, but there's a lot of foreshortening on that shot - did you take it yourself?

Yes, I took that shot in Toronto! I was in the pit lane but behind the wall. That particular starting line area and pit lane had a bend in it. Just out of view are Guererro and Sullivan.

Calhoun, you rock! These are two of my favorites, the last "lay-down" Offy machines. Very cool! The Hopkins car is the one JP eventually drove in the race, and the Gehlhausen machine was eventually bounced off the wall by Bill Alsup in the unusual 5th qualifying day precipitated by the wastegate scandals.

The 19, as I recall, had a story done on it in the Star in the days leading up to the race, and there was great hope for it. Spike was a pretty fair qualifier and the car had shown some speed...Alsup got it up to 188+ prior to his wreck. I think this is the ex-Fletcher Eagle Bobby Unser ran in 76...and believe it eventually went to Bill Tempero, who put a Chevy in it and ran the 1980 CART schedule. Jim Buick got it next and comprehensively trashed it in the consi at the Michigan 500.

Ovalmeister, I LOVED that shot of Vern Schuppan's helmet. I always try to get a clear shot of helmets that are either of one of my favorite drivers or is somehow "different" grahphically. That one of Vern's is certainly a nice looking helmet. Thanks,
