To Me it looks to be on the piece of windscreen Plexiglass or? on the cock pit side.

That's what I thought at first. I went back and looked closer at the helmet shots that Dudley has posted and it's on the helmet for sure.
I believe it is simply a different style of hook for the straps that went under the drivers arm to support their head. You can kind of see it below in one of the Sneva shots.
Maybe some helmet brands came with the hooks and other helmet brands came with these wires?

No problem. In looking at even more helmet photos it seems only "Bell" had the wires. I see "Simpson" and "Arai" (Ongais) all have the hook style.

I assume the "wire" allowed a driver to turn his head a little more.

That's mechanic Jerry Eisert talking to George Bignotti in the background. I can't remember how it came about but Eisert ran the Interscope car for a time back then.

Every time I stop by here, you guys are whipping out something better than before. Sneva, the Little Al pic should be in the Unser museum.

The one time in my life I go to Albuquerque, the Unser museum was closed...I'm not bitter...not at all.....
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security
