But they just weren't fast enough to stay with Clark as it turned out and they managed to run out of fuel just after Jones took the checkered flag in second place.
BTW, ZOOOOM, just where was this photo taken from? I can't quite figure which grandstand. Maybe J Stand??? Thanks again.

Clark was just awesome that day. Great memories. It was a wonderful race experience for me. All of the build up for Jim Clark the previous two years was really put together this day as he spanked everybody. Thanks for this photo.

Another one for my slideshow from ZOOOM!
In the PJ to be honored at LBGP thread I picked PJ, Mario, and Jimmy Clark as my "front row".
That translates to the rest of the worlds tracks and series I've witnessed.
Funny thing I would go AJ and Dan Gurney...next in the order.
They are all in that one picture...what a year!...what a decade!
If there wasn't 400,000 there that day...it sure seemed like it.
Those 255 Fords in the latest RE cars were the baddest racers EVER

ZOOOM I need pics of '66 PJ SC Offy...WHAT A ROCKET!

I think this goes against the spirit and intent of this thread. It's supposed to be photos you took yourself.
But I've been asked to post these, so without further ado:

Am I correct that the "Batmobile" was so wide and flat at the back because it was originally designed to house the flat six Porsche engine?Originally Posted by Ovalmeister

Of course Parnelli did drive it at Phoenix after Atkin's death, leading a large portion of the race before crashing.

Newbie to the forum, but definitely not to the Indy car world. Went to my first champ car race in '76...Phoenix. I was pretty involved with the Atlantic series at the time but eventually ended up spending a lot of time in the CART world, both as photog and and eventually as a writer.
Took my first racing pics in '74 and when I stopped in '97 I had amassed roughly 75K images in my archives. Was recently given a scanner to use and shortly thereafter started a photostream on Flickr. Slowly working my way through them but have barely scratched the surface. As of this writing I have 600 images up.
Here's the link to my Indy car images.....

I'm trying to add on a daily basis so stay tuned, I have a LOT of champ car stuff to add to the mix.
Comments, questions and requests are welcome.
thanks

GREAT stuff, Marc...
Hope to see many more!

Thank you. I'm glad I found TF.
I started scanning stuff in late Jan. and have to admit I get sidetracked on a regular basis because I start reminiscing about how fortunate I was to have been where I was when I was.
Brings back a lot of very fond memories.
As I said, I've just begun on this project. All I need now is a few more hours in the day so I can get to as much as I would like to.
So if any of you have a few hours laying around you're not using, please feel free to send them to me.
Thanks again.
Thanks for the great pics Marc, looks like ur a fan of Team Penske just like me. Welcome to the forum. Go Rick 4ever...

Little Fauss: It appears that you, like many others, are just a disgusting prevert. Pix of Linda get a lot of hits for some reason. Can't for the life of me figure it out.
Gonna be interesting to see what happens when I find the neg of Linda and her mom at Phoenix in 76 and get that image uploaded.
I was fortunate to get to know LInda a bit. She really is a sweetheart.
As for so many Penske pics....recently put together a bunch of images to send to Vintage Motorsport to help illustrate an upcoming piece on Danny.
As I've said elsewhere, I just scratched the surface of my archives. 'Tis a lot of fun being able to share them with those who appreciate them.
I have LOTS from LB so those will be appearing.
There will be plenty of additions to the other sets too.
Stay tuned.
In the meantime this left coaster is gonna jump on his bike and head out to the bike path on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Gotta see if I can run down some unsuspecting tourists!!
Thanks again for the comments.
