These are some photos that my uncle scanned in years back. I hope that other members can ID the drivers/cars/years. Thank you.

    GREAT pics!!!

I had socks just like this in the 80's and I love that the tiny kid is about the same height as Howdy Holmes.

Oops, you were right, I read the caption too quickly. It was in fact at Stafford.

Doesn't look like Salem, with that gate outside of Turn 1.

See above, it's Stafford - I posted too quickly. I just had read the caption that said he had just won Salem...

Is that one towards the bottom between Cogen and Fillip. Randy Lanier? He is standing right in front of his garage.

Are you sure? I sent the photo to Jack Arute, since Stafford is his track, and his reply was:

Actually its Thompson Speedway in CT a 5/8th mile. Some great Sprint races there in bygone days. Was once billed as the Indy of the East.

Pretty sure that's Bill Whittington. He took over the Arciero ride that year after Lanier was asked to come back with more experience...after having passed his driver's test. Had that ever happened before?

Ah... no I am not sure at all. That was the caption from *** where the photo was posted (but uncredited). Could be a mis-caption, but now we have to know.

Well that is the Scats Anfuso sprint car, not the GAPCO, and he got the Dean Van Lines champ car ride in 1964, mid season starting at the Trenton 150 in July. So yes it is a mis caption of the picture and the story is wrong too!

Love that Canadian Tire car. I really wish that instead of making the cars they did that Carousel had made more 80's cars like that of Sullivan's 85 Indy car...

I couldn't agree more. Plus they could have got a lot out of the making molds of the 84/85/86 March's alone think about all the cars you could make out of those 3 models with minimal modification depending on who had the car.

not a pic from my collection but something I found on the Indy Star site I thought some of you guys would get a kick out of

I think it said the News had this up for a couple of years in the early '60s- I've never seen a shot of this before but I'm sure it appeared in the background of lots of raceday pics during those years- what a seat!!

Grandpa and I are gonna start scanning in his slides tonight, so expect some more these next few weeks.

The second picture in the set is the Marion County Deputy Coroner stationed at the Speedway.

There were 2 coroners, for the county, working 24 hours a day. On race day, one was stationed at the track. That's who he was.

Those pictures were SCANNED by my uncle, but TAKEN by my grandpa.

My theory is that if it's loud, goes fast and is hard to control, then I have to be there! Unlimited Hydroplanes definitely qualify.

    Great Photos!

Love the old photos from 71/72 A lot of photos that show what went on in the garages and crewmen that you don't see so much in the Official IMS photos. Also the variety of the cars and their differences is great. Thanks to you and your grandpa for scanning these, can't wait for the rest!!!!

Tell me something/anything about this entry. I vaguely remember seeing this car and dad taking a picture of it in the infield at Trenton Speedway after the Fall 1973 Indy car race. I do not remember if it was in the race or if it was a DNQ. All I know is the where and the when

USAC ran SuperVees at Trenton. Up until 1978 when a fatality happened.

that ain't no Super Vee with that World of Outlaws-size wing on the back

and IIRC Super Vees in the early '70s didn't even have rear wings

KevMcNJ who posted the pic says it's '73
after a little research, the only Super Vee series running in the U.S. at that time were with the SCCA on road courses
the USAC Super Vee Mini-Indy series which ran on both ovals and RCs didn't start up until the '77 season- I think I saw them at Milwaukee that year
