Thanks, nice work!!
I'm guessing the on-track shots were 1981, since he wasn't wearing the Schlitz Gusto livery in your pics. Is that our Rookie of the Year?
Any of the '82 crew working on the car in the background perhaps? Ronnie Dawes (later of Hemmelgarn) will be in one, maybe B. Unser directing the mayhem.
Great portrait shots! Your effort is much appreciated.
That's Ken Double with Garza. Man could he play the pipe organ!!
He was also a Cub fan!![]()
Have a very blessed day!

David.
Sorry Jag, these are the only '82 shots I can find so far, and they kinda suck. lol.Originally Posted by JagtechOhio

Gary Bettenhausen Sanair 1986.
Gary backed it into the fence during time trials.
He then helped A.J. Watson fix it.
They made repairs and started the race but dropped out with mechanical woes. Mid way through the race, Gary took over for Dennis Firestone in this car #36. Not sure if Dennis got sick or what, never did hear the story. (picture is Firestone driving during practice).

Thanks again, David!
Your photos taught me alot about what happened shortly after I was "provided the opportunity to pursue other avenues in my motor racing career".
The wrecked #50 car was Josele's March 81C whch he had raced at Phoenix, I never knew it met this fate.
He qualified the #55 car last on the grid for the 1982 Indy 500, and fell out on lap one of the race with a mechanical failure. This was a March 82C, which had not been run before May.
I found an entry that suggests B. Unser took to the track in the #55: that may have been his last drive at the Brickyard in a competitive Indy car. If Mr. Unser turned some laps I suspect they were for the purposes of shakedown/ setup and not as preparation for a qualifying attempt on his own behalf.
If your photos of the car kinda suck, that is neither the fault of the photographer or the driver. At least I can say I never worked on the #55 car, one lap wonder that it was. Thanks for sharing from your archives
