Sneva is in the March. The nose is not right to be the Theodore. The rear wing config. is a good bit different from what even the other Marches ran (see Fabi shot above).
The Theodore showed some promise early but then seemed to get put on the back burner, why, I'm not sure.

    Just a request....

Today I was reading the day by day press room trackside release from 1983. It gives daily reports throughout the month, speeds, incidents, driver changes, etc...
It mentions Bob Harkey #79 had a pretty serious practice crash, broke several ribs, collarbone, leg, hand and wrist. I have no recollection of that crash or even what the car looked like.
Does anyone have any photos of that car, either the crash or pre-crash? I just can't place that car at all.
    Thanks,
    David.

The car was AJ's '81 Coyote with a Chevy engine. Whatever photos I have are from the Hungness Yearbook.

That's the Primus...originally the Longhorn LR03, with the updated sidepods. A John Ward design, I think.

If you think that Kniefel looked huge in an Indy Car, you can imagine what he looked like in a Ralt RT-4 Atlantic. Wild!

I was actually offered this car at the 1983 Road America race. I was in paddock (I was 14) and asked what happened to it(it had been in the crash at Michigan the week previous) They said it was in the dumpster at the shop and that I was welcome to it

yes it is... a disaster of a car, both in performance and looks if you ask me. Even the beautiful STP colors and logos couldn't help the looks of that tub. A far cry from the 82' chassis. I want to thank everybody for keeping this thread alive. In a time where our sport is hanging by the skin of its teeth, this thread helps erase the pain, and reminds me of the smells, sounds, colors, and how innovative and important our sport once was. VERY bitter sweet.

If my memory hasn't failed me again , yes, 1983. My memory did fail me though on #12...that's not John Paul's car but Geoff Brabham's (when I took this shot) which finished 4th! Actually it was John Paul's car until he crashed breaking his leg and was unable to drive. Geoff was unemployed at the time and got the call!

I agree. 82 Wildcat = beauty, 83 Wildcat = beast. That said, it still managed to win a race somehow.

All true; but at the same time the Wildcat was likely the last Indy car to actually be built in Indianapolis. The other chassis of the 1980s that took things over (Lola, March, Penske) were all built in England and brought over here. Johncock's 1982 win was the last time that an American built car won the 500. And contrary to popular belief cars could still be built here but the current rules don't even allow anyone to try. Maybe things will turn around someday.

The last 100% American CAR and Engine to win would be Foyt's Coyote Ford in 1977.

    If Im not mistaken.....

Correct. Now that I think about it there was also the Eagle-Chev/Pontiac variations built about the same time that were built in the States. But just about all of the American builders quit after the early 1980s; even Foyt gave it up after 1981. It was just too easy to go buy a March in those days if you had a sponsor that would pay for one. Sometimes I think the growing number of bigger sponsors in that period drove teams away from building their own cars. With the money that they were spending no sponsor wanted to potentially look bad with a totally new design. You were pretty much assured of qualifying at Indy if you just bought a new March or Lola.

That was 1966 on Carl Williams...

Weren't the Gurney Eagles in the mid-eighties built in the US? although they didn't win... and the Galmer?
