never a fan of Johncock but I did love that paint job...
That 1983 Wildcat was the best looking year for that particular car, imo.
We drive 800 miles every year to see them go 500 miles. And we're glad to do it.

What? I'm just saying I preferred the 83 Wildcat to its predecessors. I liked the shape of it.Originally Posted by MichaelP

IIRC this was the crash that effectivly ended his career?

Ignorant men marvel at extraordinary things. Intelligent men admire simple things.
Sadly Zooom, the footbox area of that car is gone. That's the reason why Jeff's injuries were so severe.
Just wondering what the tie-in was between the Queen Mary and Gordy's Indy Car?..Sponsorship? Or was it just an interesting backdrop?Originally Posted by cbreez99

Yep. Looks like a race day shot.Originally Posted by indybigjohn

If you put it beside most any other roadster, the difference is very noticeable. They really massaged it a lot in order to get prepared for the last stand against the Rear-Engined Invasion.Originally Posted by indybigjohn
Flat, don't you think it's the new Goodyear lower profile tires. They really lowered the old roadsters...

.....'Excuse me guys but, one thing you've gotta remember was the man in charge of that operation was the greatest chief mechanic in the history of Indy car racing. I'll never forget one of the episodes of either "Indy: A Race For Heroes" or "Legends of the Brickyard" where George explained that one year he took delivery of a brand new Eagle chassis from Dan Gurney's All American Racers and noticed right away that something wasn't quite right in the rear suspension pick-up points. He made the necessary changes and then got a big chuckle of not telling Dan what changes he made and watching the other Eagles struggle with handling problems.
Both this car (driven by Ebb Rose in 1963) and Parnelli's got pretty much the same treatment; and I'm told in the same shop over the 1963-64 winter. And there were some suspension changes as well to accomodate the 15 inch wheels properly; in 1963 the cars were simply raised which put things on the edge of being bound up. And both cars had their oil tanks moved inside the bodywork, too.Originally Posted by flatlander_48
