The photos are great Marc! It would be fantastic if the resolution were higher.
Unfortunately in today's world stealing images is a booming business. I keep mine small so the temptation is less.
I've already caught more than one "business" offering my stuff for sale. I offered to let them continue if they paid me $500 per. At the time I had roughly 400 images up.
I never did get my check for c. $200K.
Actually this "person" had every single publicly viewable Flickr image availble for sale. I posted on the flickr help forum and the guy was bombarded with demand for payment and within minutes all of them were no longer available.
I reckon it's a never ending battle, but with proper tags on the pics and search engine usage one can catch some of the bad guys.
I wish things weren't this way. I'd like people to see them better too.
I have a friend in NJ who runs a old timers website mainly for NJ racing and race tracks in the NJ/PA/NY area.Originally Posted by marc sproule

Perhaps this is what you need to do just hide your name somewhere in a shadow or something As soon as they realize they have to look for it, they willl move on to easier sites to steal work from
Heres a link from that site to show what I mean. Can you find where they hid the ""3w"?

Found it in less than 5 seconds. The sad reality is that if someone wants to steal images it really isn't difficult to do so. The smaller they are though...at 72dpi, which is screen resolution...the more difficult it is to make it into something useful, other than on a website.
And to think, when I graduated from high school some 45 years ago I couldn't wait to get into the world of grownups.
Shows what I knew.

Yep - never ending. I've caught some of my product images used to sell items on ebay. In one instance the culprit cut out my copyright notice and left a white box there. When I confronted him he claimed he didn't know it was copyrighted.Originally Posted by marc sproule

In '89 I was working for Jag as their racing p.r. photog. One morning at breakfast I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my snaps as the focal point of a Jag race win ad in the business section of the SF paper.
Since no one had informed me about this I called my boss. We shared a good laugh when he told me that someone had gotten into his office and stolen the print that was used for the ad. He suggested I call the guilty party at the ad agency.
I did. I was nice at first but got rather testy when I was told that "you'll never work for us again!!"
Since I was working for Jag and not the ad agency I forcefully informed him what the fee was gonna be for using my image...it was used in all the big papers nationally and as a standup point-of-purchase display in all the dealers' showrooms. He gagged and got even nastier.
So I raised my price.
He had no choice and paid the fee, part of which bought me a nice '73 911 that I enjoyed driving for many years.
Some years later I met a woman here in Santa Cruz who was obviously from New York. When I inquired about her job she said she had just left the ad agency in question and moved out here.
I asked about Mr. Sticky Fingers and told her the story of the purloined pic. She cracked up, said the guy was "a flaming a****le" and had been fired.
Boy that sure made me feel bad.

I have caught people selling my images and stamping them as do not copyrite with their own stamp. Onlyclassics on ebay is ALL copyrited reproduced images. I have had several of his auctions ended with my stuff. Myself & J Mahoney have been railing him for years.....Originally Posted by MichaelP
The problem with this is that anyone that is skilled in Photoshop can remove these marks. I have removed people and other objects from photos that I did not not want in the picture or blocked part of the car (This has only been done on very few of our pictures because it takes a very long time.). That is why I put our company logo right on top of the car. I know it obscures the picture, but you can still see the quality of the picture (how much grain is in the picture, the sharpness of the picture, etc.). Our thumbnails do not have the watermark on them, and they are small enough and at a resolution that prohibits quality when trying to enlarge them.Originally Posted by KevMcNJ
We have been criticized for our watermark, but when you have invested the money that we have in obtaining these pictures, we do not want them copied. Also, some of our pictures are sold on commission via contract with people that own some of the pictures we are selling.
I know placing watermarks over the cars in pictures is not an option for historic websites wanting to show their history, but for us, it is an necessity.

If an image is being used on the net sometimes this site can catch it, but that happens only when the image has been added to their data bank.

It's worth a try.
Don't forget there are bazillions of images out there so it's not a foolproof way of catching the bad guys.
Thank you for posting that site. We need to all work together to stop these thieves.![]()
I for one truly appreciate those that have pics to post here.

I think one reason why we aren't posting as frequently is because we've plumb run out of good pictures to post. I know I have.

God speed!
.....'Hey ZOOM! 'I'm sure glad that when you posted the pic of Betty and Jim Hall, you were careful not to mention the year. Because I would have hated to have had to "blow you out of the water" if you were wrong! Just remember, what you post and say here on TrackForum, can and will be held against you in a court of law!!! Thanks again, ZOOM!
