Why are they calling them LED TVs?

I know why.

But the LEDs are just the method of providing the backlighting.

They don't call the old ones Fluorescent TVs.

I think they are being misleading on purpose.

They are misleading on purpose. In Eurpoe big LCD's are under the loop for their extesive energy useage. Samsung thinks that sticking the LED label on it, people will think of LED technology with it's extremely efficient light output.

The LED moniker for these TV's has been banned in the UK and soon EU wide.
