    KU Football's new "player's coach"

If they weren't paying him so much I'd label him a sacrificial lamb. . .

Even if they weren't, not at all...

Notice in his press conference he talked about recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. He said nothing about coaching. He knows he and his staff won't have to be geniuses if they can recruit well. That they can be just good coaches and do well if they can recruit.

I have a feeling he's going to be able to recruit. He seems personable, energetic, and young enough to relate to the kids. And he may not be Charlie Weis level of genius, but he has seemed to be a decent coach as well.

If they give him four or five years to show some results, I think he'll be there for a good while after that. It is a tough conference though, so hopefully expectations aren't too ridiculous. He can make bowls there, and even once in awhile contend at the upper end of the conference.
Got to watch out for those Libertarians - they want to take over the government and leave everyone alone!

There's more than one way to skin a cat in college football, and I wouldn't discount anybody that can make a program like Buffalo respectable.

This Hoosier fan sure wishes IU had him.

    Sure, me too.

But he'd just leave us after a few years when all the better offers rolled in from the AD's saying "wow, he made Indiana respectable, just think what he could do here!"

If it made IU respectable for a while, I'd take it!!

Of course, nothing would be stopping IU from sweetening its offer to keep a successful coach! Regardless, it would be a nice to have a coach that other schools wanted.

You can find a lot of guys out there who can go 2-10, 5-7, 8-6, and 5-7.

Not at Buffalo, considering what he'd inherited.

Records in season immediately proceeding Gill's tenure:
    2-9
    4-7
    0-11
    2-9
    3-8
    1-11
    1-11
    2-9
    1-10

Regardless, even if he's just below average, the Hoosiers' situation would be upgraded.

Well, I admire the earlier posters' optimism. I'd like to think we're getting another Tony Dungy coaching college ball in Lawrence.

But the chatter I'm overhearing in these parts is worry he may be another Herm Edwards coaching college ball in Lawrence. YMMV. We'll see.
