    Sad day in history

According to my local paper, Gen. George Patton died on this day from injuries received in an accident.

Love or hate him, he was quite an individual.

Probably not really true, but my favorite quote was his supposed answer when told he would hook up with the Russians at the Elbe River.

"I'll hook up with those sons of b****es at the Volga!"

I'm not that good with European geography but I assume that means he'll be invading Russia?

I stumbled upon his grave by total accident on day. Had no idea that it was there. We were driving just outside of Luxembourg city and saw American flags. We could have easily missed the grave. While it is in the first row, it is exaclty the same as the other 8,000 or so. Just happend to see the name. There is nothing at all that makes it stand out. It is now kind of a hobby of mine. Found a new one in Belgum last month. The German ones are interesting also.

On the flip side, December 21 is also the anniversary of a happy event: Apollo 8 launched for the first manned voyage to lunar orbit on December 21, 1968.

L-R: Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell, Lunar Module Pilot Bill Anders (since there was no Lunar Module to Pilot, Lovell joked that Anders' role was basically to "sit there and look intelligent") and Commander Frank Borman.

It was also the first manned launch of the mighty Saturn V.

Sea: As always, great shots. I will get those files after the Holiday. I've posted them before, but could not access them on TF's search feature. They are really quite informative.
