As a lifelong indycar fan I will never attend another Indy 500, Race, or watch/follow the sport on television if this abomination is allowed to run.
Never have been more embarrassed to be an AOW fan.
From what I've seen over the last few days, I've found almost no one is against the concept. The look, eh, another story.

I don't know what to say to someone whos fandom is so shallow that the aesthetics of a car will drive them away forever.
What if the aesthetics attracted them to the sport in the first place?Originally Posted by TripleFive

I'm 31 and I love the concept of a low drag, low downforce car that is cheaper to build and maintain. I absolutely hate how this car looks. Since this is a case where all the cars on the grid will look like this I'm am strongly against this.
Nothing would be better than a car with low drag, low downforce and a ton of torque. Let's separate the men from the boys and the girls from the women.
You may want to read what the DW Group and the designer has actually said. The 'open source' approach could very well mean that not a single car on the grid would look like this.Originally Posted by jcmark611
I think this thread hits the point that most are missing. Has anyone asked themselves why Hot Wheels makes a toy cars that look like this. I have to believe that it is because they sell!!! I would guess that most kids who would see this car would think that it is awesome and futuristic.

The original question puts a great deal of faith in Kalkoven and Bowbly's assertion that the younger generation will be attracted to the sport because of this design. And I'm calling off base on it. I don't give either of them the market research credentials to have them lead with that idea.
The major flaw in that thinking is your potential new young fan base changes their interests quickly. The kid who loves this design at age 8 will have moved on from the sport by the time he's 11 same as every other age group. Why do you think trading in and reselling of video games is such a big business, play the game a while and lose interest. Would anyone care to tell me again how drifting has become a huge force in motorsports? Younger generations find what's hot, have fun and move on to the next hot thing. Thinking that the flavor of the month was going to be the future lost Kalkoven plenty of money shopping street festivals around the globe.
This sport can grow, succeed and thrive but not on a fantasy of instant solutions.

I LOVE the idea (concept) but the car is well.. meh.
I would have liked an all wheel drive car that looked more traditional, or if you went delta, invert it. My inverted delta, I mean rear tires close together, with an engine behind the driver, and the nose more aerodynamic.
Money is always a question, but technology is there to hit 1000 pounds with driver

As it is, somebody needs to think outside the box to rescue IndyCar, and the concept is better than any other ideas I've seen.
I don't like the car any more (or less) than I like the Hotwheels proposed by the competing manufacturers, but I certainly don't dislike it as a place to start.

27 years old, half like the concept (to be honest i don't care about the drag affect of the open wheels - open wheel is open wheel. End of) and do not like the Delta Wing car in the slightest. Looking forward to seeing the Lola designs. Swifts are good though.
