NASCAR's short comings are Indycar's opportunities.
At some tracks, NASCAR is not reacting good enough with ticket prices. Fontana lowered prices on seats in the lower sections. You could see many fans were willing to pay the lower price, but cannot possibly pay the outlandish prices for the upper sections. The same for Atlanta. You could see the empty seats were in the much higher priced seating.
The races are way tooooo long!! Baseball complains about a 3 hour game, and NASCAR is running 5 hour races.
The NASCAR schedule has become extremely stale. Too many second races at several tracks. Second races at Fontana, Atlanta, Phoenix, Michigan, Martinsville, Pocono, New Hampshire, Dover and Richmond need to be cut. A second race at Kansas is a mistake. NASCAR needs to add more new tracks.

Also, the trend in upcoming drivers is from Karts, not short tracks. Short tracks are slowly dying. USF2000 and Star Mazda is the way!!
I compare NASCAR's status to Indy or Daytona. Indy and Daytona are handicapped because of their history. The Indianapolis 500 can't add a title sponsor to increase revenue because too many people would scream Blastphomy.
NASCAR is struggling because they are not reacting fast enough. They need to drop ticket and concession prices. They need to shorten races. They are holding on too tight to places like Pocono and Martinsville. They need to get into new markets. They need to add a couple more road courses.
People can complain about Bernie moving away from European races, but F1 has added some unbelievable race tracks in Bahrain, China, Valencia, etc. And, the existing tracks have to upgrade or your out. Keep it Fresh!!
I'm no NASCAR fan, but don't we see these threads at least once a year around here? I tend to focus on Indy Car and let the other series sort through its own issues.

I was going to say that the make-the-news-up-as-we-go-along-to-suit-us Times could not spell "NASCAR" if you spotted them the "N" and the "S". Until I realized "America's Newspaper of Record" had actually mis-spelled it.
Anyway, the mantra on this board from day one has been that Indy's problems are a result of NASCAR "cheating" and "stealing" fans from other forms of the sport, rather than the truth that NASCAR's rise from obscurity was by bringing new fans to auto racing. This would be followed by an inevetable "colapse" where all of these minions would realize the folly of their ways and "return" to Indy worship.
As if more proof of the silliness of this idea was needed, NASCAR has dipped. Indy has not had an accompaning bump.
Indy's problems were born in Indy. Not in Daytona or Charlotte.

NASCAR is unaware there was a recession that is turning the corner into recovery.
I wouldn't want to be a major shareholder/stakeholder in any NASCAR entity over the next five years. Merchandising is all but on the gurney and television is losing 15-20% in ratings a year among key demos for the past five years. This past weekend only confirmed that the sport is becoming contrived, fake.
The fall for Indy Car was hastened by self-inflicted wounds. They have bottomed out and even gained since unity came about. NASCAR's fall has been like the blowout of tires on a semi: one at a time, over time, and having devastating effects if not addressed...and they have not addressed them because they don't think anything is broken.

Likely won't translate to much greater TV ratings - now. But the racing on the track is not contrived/fake and they are the fastest multi-lap motors. That is all I care about.

To be honest, Indycar really doesn't do a lot of racing on the track, contrived or otherwise. Most of the events are just high speed parades interrupted by periodic pitstops. If you really want to talk about contrived/fake racing I think you have to include push to pass and the option tires in that category.
Racing is but another form of entertainment...one series has found the key the other, not so much...

Apparently the sponsors aren't too hip on NASCAR as much as they were 5,6 years ago, either. Not to mention the average sports fan who has left TV viewership of NASCAR in droves in the same period.
Please, don't call 5 to 6 hours of boredom "entertainment". If watching cars run slowly is entertainment, then I guess we are becoming a less educated country. If they need fake drama and poster boys, I can recommend to them Friday Night WWE Slam...but they are likely watching that already.
I am embarassed to say I used to watch the crap NASCAR is trying to sell us as competitive entertainment. So far have the mighty fallen that they are resorting to the silver bullet theory in rushing Danica Patrick into the sport. The same driver they disrespected ror years is now acceptable since proven to be marketable.
Let's be honest...that is all NASCAR cares about anyway. Right? The racing is not interesting, so trump up drama and sell poster boy looks to an audience they really have no respect for beyond the exchange of money for their products.
