Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone have died

Associated Press is reporting that Fess Parker has died at age 85. Us older guys will never forget the Davey Crockett mania of the 50s and the Daniel Boone series of the 60s.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds strange now but there wasn't much bigger than Davet Crockett in the 50's. Until Elvis I suppose. Fess has a helluva winery too. RIP

As a young child I always wanted a coon skin cap; we were too poor in those days for my parents to buy me one.

I read in Neal Gabler's book about Walt Disney that Parker gave himself 36 months to make it big in Hollywood after graduating from Texas, and if he didn't, he would return to Texas and get a real job. He landed Davy Crocket in his 35th month, if my memory is correct.

I grew up in the 50s and I had me a coon skin cap as did all my friends.
