WTF? They just had a commercial for the Daytona 500 at halftime of the Carling final. Come watch "Danica and the Gang" on Fox at noon.

Very substantial upset. About the only team that hasn't bothered with the CC over the last couple of seasons is Man Utd. Our win over Arsenal derailed their season - they went from on course for a quadruple to on course for nothing in about a fortnight - and Liverpool haven't won anything for nearly a decade, they're desperate for a trophy.

One nice thing about the Daytona rain delay is watching this Carling Cup. Liverpool went up 2-1 in extra time, but now Cardiff has equalized late and they're going to penalties. Another big upset brewing?

Crazy game, lots of chance on both sides... wow. Have to think Liverpool should have the edge in penalties, but I guess we'll know in a few minutes!

Congrats to Liverpool! I'd have rather have seen Cardiff just for the upset, but Liverpool needed this too.

For the first time ever, the USMNT wins a match against Italy. A friendly, but in Italy. Nice win for the Americans.

I'm still giddy for Arsenal's win over Spurs. I don't think many people expected THAT; not to mention the contributions from Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky.

Happy for Liverpool though. Not a fan of course, but they got me into soccer in the first place.

Good luck to your Blues today Ensign,in their replay against Chelsea. I see Chelsea sacked their coach, Are they reeling,or will they rally?

Anyway on AVB, I know he won with Porto and thus got the job with Chelsea, but I question the wisdom of a manager who is as young or younger as some of his players. He certainly didn't ingratiate himself with them and it showed.

I think they will rally, for a number of reasons; one, they've got what they wanted; two, the FA Cup is about the only trophy in which they've got a chance; three, with the Manchesters out the Cup is wide open; four, they will want to impress Abramovich/new manager; five, to prove a point to the media at large.

Besides which we've only got half a team ready. At centre-back Caldwell is injured and Davies has picked up a virus; our first choice full-backs (Carr and Murphy) are also both injured, and Carr hasn't played much in recent weeks anyway, Fahey in midfield is out and some players we've brought in as squad back-up are cup-tied. We've had to bring in an American youth teamer (Will Packwood) alongside three other academy players...

I worked out that the entire cost of the Blues side, subs included, that lined up against Chelsea was less than the cost of half of Dean Sturridge - and he was their second-cheapest player...

Well, we'll be pulling for you anyway. They're going to show it delayed on Fox Soccer tonight at 10:30 here (Champions League will be live at 1:45) I hope I have a good reason to watch.

I am proud to be an Arsenal fan today. Yes, Milan knocked them out of the Champions League, but they fought back valiantly. Congrats to AC Milan, but kudos to Arsenal FC.

Did you see that double save by the Italian keeper? He saved their tournament.

Oh and Ensign was right, Chelsea rallied to knock Birmingham out of the FA Cup.

Will Rangers FC even still be around after their troubles are over?

Also, with Arsenal out, that leaves Bayern Munich as my lone Champions League team, and they currently trail Basel 0-1 on aggregate. Geez.

Toronto FC, who is kind of a joke being in the CCL in the first place, blows a two goal lead at home and ends up with a 2-2 draw against the underwear model and his friends.

Sounders up early in their match....

Sounders FC win 2-1 against Santos Laguna. Onto the second leg next in week in Mexico. Hey, Seattle beat a Mexican team in Mexico last year, they surely can do it again.

Oh, and MLS begins this weekend!

Anyone see any coverage of Toronto FC vs LA Galaxy? I went, it was bloody impressive. 47,000 people at Toronto's Skydome to see the CONCACAF Champion's League match:

Never thought I'd see the day we'd sell-out a stadium like that for soccer. Partly the cheap tickets, partly due to Beckham, and then just the novelty of seeing soccer at Skydome! Very cool start to the season.

Hehe, better late than never, as they say.

    Monday, March 12, 2012:
EPL - Arsenal 2-1 Newcastle United

Newcastle scored first, but good ole Robin van Persie responded less than a minute later to tie things up. Leave it to Thomas Vermaelen to win it for them in injury time.

    FUN GAME?

So far this season it's LeToux 1, Union 1. Let's see if the Union can keep up with Seba.

Nowak just makes me shake my head with his lineup decisions.

Inter is out of the Champions League. For some reason, I shed no pity.

Great stuff from Bayern though. Hopefully this will get their season back on track.

Seattle got thumped too, Toronto FC is the only MLS team left in the competition.

What a surprise. Seattle disappoint AGAIN.

Yeah, we care about the CCL. No, seriously, we do. How can you not take with utmost reverence a tournament where last year's TFC squad qualifies? I mean, we really wanted all those extra games despite our desire to focus on the MLS title. Please believe us.

It's kind of like the Carling Cup - nobody cares about it. Until they do.
