Awesome goal, I'd like to see Newcastle make the top 4. They took care of business versus Chelsea today. It's too bad they lost to Wigan last week, but then again Wigan is beating all comers, Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle; It's hard to believe they're in the relegation fight.

In other soccer news, West Ham United holds a 2-0 advantage over Cardiff City in the first leg of their semi-final promotion playoff to the premier league. With Reading and Southampton already confirmed to promotion, it will be interesting to see who gets the final spot.
Also, Real Madrid are officially La Liga champions for 2012, but Serie A is less decided. Juventus and AC Milan will surely go to the wire as it stands.
Premier League: Manchster City or Manchester United
La Liga: Real Madrid
Bundesluga: Borussia Dortmund
Serie A: Juventus or AC Milan
Ligue 1: Lille or Paris-St. Germain
Three out of five is not bad at all. Even season long tables can be as exciting as tournaments and play-offs!
I would like to see Blackpool get back up in the EPL. They were a very entertaining team to watch in 2010-2011. Very attack minded - quite unusual for a newly promoted side with a small budget and squad, typically these teams put 10 behind the ball and just try to squeak out draws and the occasional win to stay promoted - but they also leaked a lot on the defensive side on counterattacks. I think Norwich and Swansea emulated that approach this season but had a little better defensive organization. Plus, Ian Holloway is a fun chap.
No offense to the Brum there ensign.
Well, Blackpool is up 1-0 after the first leg and on an own goal to boot. Anyway, Arsenal-Norwich was an absolutely thrilling game, unless you're an Arsenal fan,and then it was good up until 85 minutes![]()
I don't know what happened to our defense. It was non-existent. RVP finally came to life again but the lack of defense just killed us. Nonetheless, it was a thrilling game. Now I just have to hope Spurs and New Castle lose. The probelm with that is that Spurs have an easy two games ahead of them.
Urgh, only Arsenal can snatch defeat from the embrace of victory in such an emphatic fashion. It's displays from the backline like that will decide whether we keep RvP at this point.
Really pulling for Bayern to beat Chelsea for more than one reason now...
I do not expect Spurs to lose, but at least Newcastle should theoretically have a harder time.
Of course, let us not discount Aston Villa. I'm sure plenty of people discounted Norwich today as well...
Well, the Gunners got a reprieve this weekend. Not only did Newcastle lost to Man City (which wasn't too surprising), but Tottenham drew against Aston Villa. With a big sigh of relief, Arsenal has one game left to claim that third spot. It is away to West Brom and they can win against them, but they are seriously lacking in defense. West Brom is not a team to mess around with.
Saying that, I would like to congratulate Juventus on winning Serie A after AC Milan lost to Inter. Nice to see them back on top. Now, if only Liverpool could learn...
Edit: Just about forgot! Kudos to the Sounders on their good run after beating both LA Galaxy and the Union this week.![]()
Blackburn are officially relegated, Wigan will survive another season. Will Bolton be the final relegation team, or will QPR fall? Stayed tuned next Sunday!
Also the World Football Challenge will return for another season! Chelsea, Liverpool, Toronto, Seattle, LA Galaxy, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Paris St. Germain are the currently confirmed teams to participate! I know the Gunners won't be there, but hoping for an appearance from Bayern, and a few Mexican teams!
That Chivas de Guadalajara vs FC Barcelona match from last year was epic!
Some fans claim one series or another runs "real race cars." What's everybody else running, fake race cars?
INDYCAR - NOW IZODIER THAN EVER!
my blog ... I'm not a big fat woodchuck, I'm THE big fat woodchuck.
Can you imagine what if that actually happened? Yeah, more than likely won't, but still, that would be the only thing that could take the headlines from Man City/Man Utd and Arsenal/Spurs/Newcastle/Chelsea.
Still though, kudos to Wigan. Wonder where Martinez will go next if he doesn't stay there?
Two big matches today.
Atletico Madrid thrashed Athletic Bilbao 3-0 today to win the Europa League final, their 2nd win in three years in the competition. And what about Falcao? He won the EL with Porto last year, and now with AtlMadrid this year. Can't help but think some teams will be eyeing him this summer.
Also, Blackpool advances to the playoff final at the expense of Birmingham City. Blackpool will face West Ham at Wembley. Should be fun.
Edit: Sounders with another win. WOO!![]()

A big weekend is upon us. First we have the finals for the DFB-Pokal in Germany between Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund and Champions League finalists Bayern Munich. Cheering hard for the Bavarians in this.
DIE ROTEN
Also on Sunday is the final day of Premier League action. Will City win the title, or will Man United have the last laugh? Will it be my precious Gunners reaching third spot, or will they be overtaken by Spurs and/or Newcastle? And what of Bolton? Will they be relegated, or will QPR go down instead?
Tune in for some drama on Sunday!
Also, I think the final games for La Liga are this weekend as well.![]()
Just FYI,it looks like some of these games will be on regular tier cable channels for those without Fox Soccer Channel. Fx has Manchester United-Sunderland,and Fox Sportsnet has Arsenal-West Brom, and Chelsea-Blackburn is on Speed![]()

Well, that was a humiliating defeat. Bayern losing 5-2 to Dortmund.
I really hope this doesn't dent their confidence for the UCL final next weekend. Chelsea is not a team to be underestimating.
Saying that, kudos to Borussia Dortmund. After looking at their performance in the Bundesliga and against Bayern Munich specifically, it is a wonder they didn't do better in the UCL this term. I look for them to contend to at least the semi-finals of next years Champions League if they can keep most of their stars.

Houston Dynamo played their first game in their new stadium, 1-0 win over DC United. It's a really lovely stadium, but apparently the design allows for very little breeze. That will be ugly, especially for visitors in a month or two.
Joey Barton, your thoughts?BAHAHAHA. Epic, epic finish to a season. Bravo City!

Can I just say as a born and bred Leeds United fan I am delighted at what has happened today.
For 26 years of my life I have had to listen to Man Utd fans gobbing off. The amount of glory supporters that team have is sickening, people that NO connection to Salford, NO connection to Manchester United FC, NO connection to Greater Manchester or Lancashire and in many cases, NO connection to the UK! Fans in Asia, South America and dare I say it, the USA that parade around in Manchester United shirts and claim to support them. It makes me sick.
I am so proud to be a Yorkshireman, Yorkshire is a great county and Leeds is a great city. I love Leeds United, I was born in this city, I love my city and I love my football team. These glory supporters of Man Utd DO NOT understand what it's like to support a real football. I live and breathe Leeds United, it's in my blood, like Indy is in the blood of true hoosiers. So, for the REAL team of Manchester to beat the utter puke of Man Utd in the most amazing circumstances ever is amazing.
Yes, I know it's not my beloved Leeds but it's the next best thing. To see those Manchester Utd fans in tears was payback for what i've had to put up with all my life.
Well done Manchester City, you've made a Yorkshire boy very happy...

Firstly, I want to congratulate City. They have constantly been accused of buying the title, which is an ignorant statement itself. Yeah, they have to money, but they eventually gelled as a team with a great manager in Mancini. And while I have the greatest of respect for United, I feel no sympathy.
Also congrats to my Gunners! Yeah, trashy display of defense again, but they won and finished third! Now the players can rest and recover a little, depending on how the Euros go. Onto the next season!
Now, just have to hope Bayern beat Chelsea so that we can be completely assured of third.
Love Arsenal, Love Bayern, Love Seattle.![]()
Arsenal looking to keep captain & talisman Robin van Persie with a record offer with crunch talks coming Wednesday.
And Seattle lost this weekend to RSL...hate it, but RSL is a well run team. Hard to hate them.
I don't normally frequent the soccer thread since I'm at best a very casual fan of the sport, so I don't have much to add to the discussion. I do want to say, however ...
MAN CITY!!!!!
What a finish!
As much as people on this side of the pond love their playoffs systems and all (not downing them, I like them myself), it's amazing when a season goes all the way to the wire after 38 games, plus League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, and Europa League games, they build up a sizeable gap to my Gunners in third, and tie on all stats except goal difference.
And City almost loses it, and comes back at the death of their game. Simply amazing. Not even the close battle in Serie A or Ligue 1 can compare, IMO. Hope we get more of this next year, only with Arsenal at the head.![]()
