In case you didn't know, Fox Soccer Channel has the Sounders-Cal FC game on tonight live at 10 Eastern/9 central. I am sure it's a result of Wynalda's connections to the network.

Yep, a handball in the box led to a penalty, and once they scored, it was what you would expect, once they had to go out and try to get a goal, it opened everything up, and Seattle dismantled them. Good showing though for all involved.

Agreed. One of the best things about the US Open Cup. Just wish the West Virginia Chaos would do better to warrant a spot.

I've been watching it, actually. Just been taking a break from the boards.

The England/France game was fun to watch. Kudos to Hodgeson's side.

Bye bye Sweden. Even I, who know next to nothing about football, know you can't let Shevchenko run around as he wants in the penalty box.

The Czech defending on that goal was Arsenal-worthy on that one,I thought I was watching a Carling Cup replay for a second.

It's just about a home game for Dinamo Kiev, considering half the Ukrainian team plays in that stadium. Thrilling game for a neutral though, very entertaining.

Fabulous games today, lots of scoring, well except for Ronaldo. Some guys play great for Country, but just so-soat Club level, while others are great at the Club level like Ronaldo, but can't get untracked at the national team level.

Torres starting for Spain today against Ireland. If they need a tall striker against a team that's gonna park the bus, I'd be tempted to put in Llorente, but nobody asked me

Torres scores in the 4th minute, what do I know?

We've just signed Jason Pearce from you lot, is he any good? We are desperate need of a decent defender so hopefully he fits the bill.

Good luck next season in League 1, hopefully you'll be back in the Championship very soon.

Is he back yet? They said so after his hat trick in the EPL...

And this is coming from someone who likes Torres.

Well, as it stands, Germany, Spain, Italy and others are in, and Russia & the Netherlands are OUT!

Will both England and France make it in today?

Why yes they will! matchups for the knockout rounds are England-Italy, Germany-Greece on one side of the draw, and Portugal-Czech Republic, Spain-France on the other.

Maybe England-Germany and Spain-Portugal make it through and the matchup everyone wants to see for the final, Spain and Germany? Those are the favorites to be sure, but I am sure at least one of those will have trouble in the quarters and not make it.

Probably will be Germany, if you speak with plenty of Bayern fans.

With that in mind, go Germany.

Well, Germany routed Greece 4-2, but they can be scored on, so they are not invincible. I am beginning to think the upset may be France over Spain.

You could be right. As good as they are, Italy showed that Spain aren't perfect. This is shaping up to be quite the tournament!

The England/Italy game was stirring, though neither one really proved they belong. Now with Germany having a few more days rest compared with Italy, they may have an advantage.

One thing about the results of the quarters, no "negative football" team won and that's a good thing, the semis should be dynamic, especially Spain-Portugal.

I know that as a an allegedly mature adult and fan of the game I should feel some sympathy for the players and fans..........
....However, coming from a long line of unrepentant Fenians, being a die-hard Celtic supporter, and having a pretty good idea how 99% of Rangers fans would feel if the situation was reversed - I don't.
