That Might Be the Worst Rendition Yet,,,

    Aloha All,,,

Can't They Just Sing the Song, the
    way it was written !!!

NASCAR, does not need to change one thing.

Not the Chase, not the top 35 thingie,,, nor
much of any thing else, except how the National
    Anthem is presented...

This year, as I remember, only the USMC Band,
and the US Army Choir, showed any class...

That over with, this should be a good
show, today... Marcos, or Smoke, for
me... Maybe,,, Jeffie or Kasey, that
    would be ok, too.

Replying to your topic, this may be the worst rendition yet, I would have to say this was the worst rendition yet that I have seen to an actual racing event on a road course. Soon the day will come that EVERY car will be taken out and crashed, then used to crash others out and the last car running will be the winner.

Can't we have any good clean racing?
    it is may

Perhaps it might be useful to understand what happens here - Singers are constantly given signals to either speed up or stretch it out to time it with the fly by - The fly by was late - they kept asking her to stretch it and she did what was asked of her --- I was there - I introduced her - I know what happend. She seems like a very nice woman, who likes the sport because it isn't the first time she has attended a race - so I suggest we give her a break. She did not sing the anthem in the method she intended.

    Aloha PS,,,

I enjoyed your post, and went back and edited
my post, just a little... As, the girl was not
an "Old Hag", in fact she's a very pretty girl...

What is at question, is NASCAR...

On these forums, all you hear is how NASCAR,
needs to be changed... How they screwed this
up, or screwed that up... In the big picture of
things, NASCAR is down right near perfect,,,
    near genius, in fact...

It's their series, it's their show, it's their
    responsibility, not mine... It's "their"
show, and it's a blinding success, and the
numbers prove that, second only to the NFL...

But the National Anthem is not their's, it is
mine, it is yours... At least for another
couple of years... Then it might be this one,
we all sing... And I can guarantee this, that
Vladimir Putin wont' let NASCAR dick this one up...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLi_m656tQQ

I do find it hard to believe that any "professional"
TV producer, director, or program director, should,
could, or would try to change a " professional singers"
tempo, lyrics, or rendition in mid-stream, especially
when it comes to our National Anthem...

Now PS, I don't doubt your word, not for a minute...

And, as far as the "Fly-By" goes, it's called,,, choreography...
The person responsible for the timing of the events, should
be replaced, if he can't do a better job, week in, week
out... This is not a one-shot deal, every week, the National
Anthem is made a mockery of, by some talentless hack, that
thinks he or she knows better, and is more talented, than
    Francis Scott Key...

If I were NASCAR, I would hold off the Fly-By, until the
National Anthem was finished... But that's me, and I am
    not NASCAR...

Like I said, this falls on NASCAR, and not that young lady...
She may, or may not be a talentless hack, no one would ever
know, not from her rendition of our National Anthem... It
    stunk, big time...

It's a horribly hard song to sing, only a very few can pull
it off, with the dignity, our National Anthem deserves... But
at least try singing it, the way it was written, with dignity...

It most likly will only be around a few more years anyway,
the way this Country is going...

Sing the song as written, at the correct tempo.
If the fly-be isn't perfectly timed, oh well.
    You can't micromanage everything.
Getting the song right should come first.

In point of fact there is someone in charge and it is the same production company that handles IRL events as well - that's what they are contracted to do -there is a script for every single aspect of prerace and an attempt to follow. Sometimes it doesn't go as planned because there are about 3 different masters involved and the biggest of all is television and sometimes things happen that aren't planned - just like life - it really is that simple- we can complain but that's what happens - but it isn't fair to blame the singer. Most of us have to do things in the execution of our jobs we don't want to do or really like. Next time you go to a big race look and see there is someone generally in front of the singer - For the record Tom Bigelows grandaugher was drafted to sing the anthem at a midget race without notice and did a bang up job - everyone I know generally agrees it is better when it is done just as it should be done

Now,,, Just Cranking Ya,,, a Little...

    No Harm, No Foul,,, But,,,,

"Well,,, that just about explains everything,,, no wonder the "Opening
    Ceremonies" are SNAFU,,,

Now if I were NASCAR, which I am not,,, but if I were, I'd dump that
Production Company in a heart beat... Just look what's happened to the IRL
    in the last 10 years...

Just a little more effort is needed in presenting our Nation Anthem,
    and it's NASCAR's responsibility... That's all I am saying...

If NASCAR or the "Production Company" need's a little help with
the Fly-By's, then have them contact the "Air-Boss" at EAA AirVenture,
downtown Oshkosh... Every year,He gets a bunch of the "Fly-Overs" correct,
and that's including the National Anthem...

    "Point in Fact",,,

    Aloha Buddie,,,

This is not directed at you personally, and I hope you are not the
Production Company... So its just what Peter might say,,,
"It's Just Grinds My Gear's,,, to continually hear the National
Anthem, AFU, each and every week...

    So, who was the "singer"?

The young lady who sang the anthem before the Saturday NASCAR West Series race at Sonoma did a fabulous job ... She has a beautiful voice, and sang it with (IMHO) the right emotion. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name. She should do next years Cup race ... with all due respect to Ms. Meade, I've heard parrots do a better job than what she belted out ... it was painful to listen to ... and she may well have the excuse that the timing was dictated by the show organizers ... but even knowing that, I agree ... one of the worst renditions I've ever heard.

well, the way the music was written, it probably originally wasn't sung
with that much dignity at all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anacreontic_Song

that being said, I wish sporting events would stop using acts that go all American Idol and just play a nice, dignified uptempo instrumental version over the PA, like they would at an F1 podium ceremony... would serve the purpose equally well, I say

Let's Face it, after an Hour PRE RACE, Prayer, all the Pre Race Activities...I am not ready for a Long Drown Out National Anthem by some Want-To-Be Actress. That is all News Reporters are nowadays. I have seen her.

Can anybody be positive about anything?

One of the virtues and basic bedrock principles of the USA experiment is diversity, and isn't it grand that our National Anthem can be interpreted in so many ways?

Let's leave rigidity (my way or the highway) for guys like Chavez, Kim Jong Il, Ahmadinejad, etc., and maybe not promote it so much on little ol' race fan forums. "Get a life" applies.

Robin Meade is great, I watch her about every morning on HLN. Trivia: her first morning as news anchor on HLN was Sept. 11, 2001, what a day to start that job!
