    Lowe's/Home Depot installation services

Has anyone used the lowe's or home depot installation services? I'm planning on getting new kitchen countertops for my house and I was just curious to see if anybody had 1) used the installation service and 2) was the experience good?

I am also having a new dishwasher and sink put in as well, but I think I am going to have an outside plumber who has done work for me in the past do that.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

We recently purchased a set of french patio doors for our home & had planned on having one of their subs do the work.

The BASIC installation was $439 for the door - anything extra above standard install is just that, extra.

BUT - if you had them install it, you paid no tax on the item being installed, that would have saved us 8% on a $700 door.

I spoke to a few people who had used them & they felt as if they were nickled & dimed a bit for extra work by the sub.
My wife's uncle offered to help install the door, so we did it on a Saturday. Took us about 8 hours, but it turned out great & I learned quite a bit.

Also, you can get a 10% discount coupon for Lowes here: http://www.lowes.com/cd_Coupon+Registration_253641591_

Thanks for the response. Hopefully, since my kitchen countertop layout is pretty darn simple, it will get done right. Oh and thanks for the coupon.

i have used both, hd once and lowes multiple times. they are mostly subcontractors to lowes and hd. my hd experience was a patio door and was a complete debacle that took months to get right, they kept passing the blame to their contractor and deferring any responsiblity...and the contractor was out of biz. generally good experience with all the lowes contractors.

my recommendation is to be super nice to the sales person and make sure they are giving you their favorite contractor (that's the one with fewest complaints), work within their schedule or you'll get the bottom of the barrel guy that barely knows what he's doing and have them visit your home even if it cost $50, because you will then know what the end price really is.

I've used HD for a couple of doors and a gas water heater. I would have done the water heater myself it were electric, but didn't want to chance it. No problems, but as they are subs, your mileage may vary.

I installed a new kitchen from Home Depot. HD uses independent contractors. The contractor I had was good but they were not installing the upper cabinets to my satisfaction and claimed the cabinets that were ordered would not fit. At issue was a 6 inch wide wine rack cubby and they were coming up 1/2" short. I knew what the problem was and tried to tell them why they were running out of space at the end but they would not listen to me. I knew damn well they would fit because I had installed the original modular cabinets with the same overall dimension myself 25 years previously. I called Home Depot and they sent out an ombudsman type guy to look over the situation. I explained it to him and he agreed with me and made them pull the cabinets and realign them correctly. Everything fit.

Why not call a locally owned cabinet shop, and just buy your counter tops from them...and have them install them?

I'm sure an independent cabinet shop would love to have the work, especially in these economic times. Corporate America could care less about you. They tend to care about your wallet more than they care about the customer.

My folks are having new cabinets and counter tops installed by an independent shop. They are getting a far better cabinet than Home Ripoff sells, and for less money.

After visiting Lowes--because apparently I am brainwashed into thinking they have the cheapest prices n town---I went to a local store, got a better price, and from the looks of their establishment they are busier than heck.

My bro had a horrible kitchen counter/cabinet experience with Lowe's.
