Kinda a bad spot to put someone in. He's going to be worrying about grabbing a boob or putting his arm through her crotch rather than just holding his opponent where he needs to in order to win.

I wouldn't call it "no win." He did what he considered to be the honorable thing, regardless of what it may "cost" him. Therefore, he wins; whether certain people are too shallow to see it or not.

I am going to jump in on this as Linn Mar is my kids school. Joel is not only a good kid with great morals and values, but is also one of the top wrestlers in the state at his weight. I applaud him for his decision and agree with it wholeheartedly.
Think about this for a minute, we suspend kids and label the with sexual harrassment for less that what goes on on the mat between two wrestlers with nothing more that a swimsuit on. Should we really be encouraging 2 kids, as that is what they are, of the opposite sex to roll around and grope each other for that sake of equality? I have a son that wrestles in Jr High and he pushed by his coach to wrestle a girl last year, even after I made a point to instruct the coach to not allow this to happen. There was nothing good that could come out of this match-up, win or lose. I did not address it further at the time due to harming his position on the team and with his friends and regret it to a point.
Joel needs to hold his head high for making the ultimate sacrafice in sports, giving up the opportunity for a state championship for his values. At the same time, the girls need to be praised for what they have achieved to this point. Unfortunately, all will be judged wrongly for thier achievements, both on and off of the mat.
BTW Gomer, losing would not have happened in this case. His is THAT good and would have probably been in finals.
Fair enough. Maybe the media attention will get him some extra attention from some of the other ladies. That might make his difficult decision a little more rewarding.

I've learned not to read comments in any kind of serious story. I knew two guys that were killed in separate accidents, one on a motorcycle and one in a car. The comments left on the IndyStar articles about them were simply unbelievable. People who never met them were using the stories to push personal agendas. There were comments so extreme as to say they got what they deserved for not wearing helmets/seatbelts, speculating about alcohol/drugs, etc. In both instances it turned into family members and friends trying to defend their loved ones against a bunch of random hateful people that seem to hunt down those types of articles on a daily basis.

The sad thing is in this case, he is a 15 year old kid that made a very grown-up decision and fools out there will judge him forever. Not meaning to diminish the loss of your friends or thier situation as I feel that there are many who need to lose thier bandwidth permissions in many cases.

I mean, no offense and I don't want to be too graphic, but I've seen guys wrestling and one guys head could be smashed right in the other guy's crotch. Or his chin on the other guy's ass. We think nothing of it as that's one of the "hazards" of wrestling.
But the first time some dude gets turned around and finds himself face to face with Miss v-jay-jay, what's he supposed to do?
I hate to say it, but its going to take some dude breaking some girl in half before they rethink this PC crap that is running amok.
Another thought would be for each of the boys to default. When she wins state without actually wrestling, maybe they'd realize they're going to ruin the sport if they keep it up...

Didn't she have a winning record? Unless there are more girls out there wrestling than we know, she beat a lot of those boys you're waiting to see break her in half.
Or they could compete. Like athletes do.
I have no problem with what the kid did. it's his life, and his beliefs, and good for him for standing on those principles. I just have fundamentally different principles.

Only those who doubt his decision. Wrestling is a very physical sport as is boxing. I wouldn't do either against a girl and anybody promoting either is a fool.

The next obvious problem obvious to anyone with a brain, is why does equal access only work one way?
