Jimmie Johnson wreck on Road Course long ago in Busch Series

Does anyone remember this? JJ in his rookie year (i think) wrecked really bad on some RC. Probably The Glen or Sonoma. It was a really really hard hit but he emerged from the car and held his hands up like "WOW I survived THAT"! It was the first time I ever recall hearing his name and it was very cool! It think it was a Busch Series event. Wish I could find it on YouTube or somewhere.

The Glen. Went head first into the foam block barrier after blowing through Turn 1, IIRC.
    It's a Hoosier thing, you wouldn't understand...

I saw it happen live and really thought he was hurt..it was a hit.
I love how he explained afterwards about seeing it coming and exhaling as much air out of himself as he could cause he knew it was gonna get knocked out anyway

I believe this was the same corner that effectively ended the career of Tommy Kendall and the life of J D McDuffie. Jimmie goes in head on and walks away? Again, when your number is up...

    Johnson's deal is T1
it was turn 6 that got Kendall and McDuffie- the turns do look quite similar
those two wrecks were one of the main reasons they have a chicane right before T6 now

I remember him saying that all he saw was a white wall coming at him. He thought, if that's just concrete, this is big trouble.

Foam blocks backed by a tire wall backed by yielding armco worked pretty well.

Sorry for the error. Either way, it was a tough few years for the Glen.

This was from 2000 so I doubt if he had on a HANS. How in the world was he not hurt???

This isn't a fact, and it's based on faith, but in my head and heart, it was divine intervention...God, bless us all...
My major malfunction is...I want the people I love and respect to live forever...The problem is...Life don't work that way...

P.S. Questions, comments, death threats, invitations to a pigs bris, my number is still (317) 809-4483

I was at there, it was a big, big hit. I remember seeing/hearing, this guy's got no chance from a bunch of people. I've got off there too in a Formula Ford (didn't hit) and back then, it was a major deal to go off unabated, as there wasn't much to scrub off, if you were locked up or lost brakes. He was an unknown at the time. Lucky to be unhurt. We thought he was going to be over the fence into Seneca Lake!

The best way I can describe it, is when there's that seemingly looooong silence when someone loses it at Indy, before the big hit. You knew he was in big trouble by the braking zone. There was a long "silence" before anything made a big noise (crunch, tires squealing, etc.). No HANS that I remember.
