By the way, we reached this point in terms of thread length on March 4th last year.

Discussion centered around Hinchcliffe being out of money, whether Luzco Dragon would make the grid, and just how much funding Vernay had to bring to the table. At least until the "Firestone out of IICS" bomb was dropped.

    Whoa! Have things changed.

Some fans claim one series or another runs "real race cars." What's everybody else running, fake race cars?

Yeah, I'm waiting for Pruett's update because he's been a lot more thorough than Cavin.

As far as Panther goes, Hildebrand did make these comments that point to them being a one-car team

Without a doubt, I think this year it’s even more important than it has been in years past. I think a big piece of that is being able to gage how quickly other people are figuring things out, especially for us going into the season as a one car team, going into testing where there are a bunch of other cars we really get a feel. It’s always hard to tell what people are doing, and what strategies they have, but in this day and age there is rarely sand bagging on test days, and I think that will be a big piece of it.
No reason to make any updates until Pruett's story comes out, though.

On a IndyCar and FIL related note: everything Krohn is saying on Twitter points to him gone to sportscars for awhile. Sounds like he hitched up with some Mazda factory backing.

If Panther were going to be a 2-car team, they'd already have Rice or whoever out there with JR. I'd expect to see them run a part time car later in the season.

Thanks for the link. I've got an idea of where I'm going with tonight's update, but I'm waiting for the Pruett story before making any changes to the actual list.

    Any word on Bia?
I know she came back to Indy to take physical and she seemed to be tweeting a lot lately.
But I don't sense the desperation from her like Pippa.

I'm hoping for DRR#2 for her.

I know. The first part was my senior quote. I do have the entire quote with a Bruce McLaren Orange border in a nice frame right above my bed.

I hope SFHR ,ECR and Conquest can get an engine because it would suck if the engine manufactures turn teams away.

My understanding is that they can have the Lotus engine right now but they're holding out for a Honda or Chevy.

Nope. They have no engines but want Chevy or Honda.
Apparently, even if they agree to taking a Lotus engine they won't get it in the car "for awhile" because Lotus hasn't built enough engines due to a parts shortage. "awhile" could be a month or an hour before practice starts at St Pete.
Congratulations to RHR, & all the winning drivers & teams in the fantastic 2012 season. Looking forward to 2013!

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

For the first time in over a decade it looks like the Indycar field will be deeper and more competitive...

That might be just a wee bit of a reach. And the strenght of the field is definetely offset by the weakness of the schedule.

I won't compare to NASCAR, mainly because it's a good way to derail a thread and what they do has no bearing on my enjoyment of the IICS, but I will say I am immensely pleased with the caliber of the field overall so far, with the promise of more goodness to come.

With any luck, we see another driver or two announced this week.

are you a brother of Phi Gamma Delta, like myself and Brother Penske and Rahal? Since Pres Coolidge was a Phi Gam (Amherst College class of 1894) we drive that quote home quite often during pledgeship.

Ok where the heck are they all coming from I mean really last year this time if anyone said we would have this many drivers and teams competing in 2012 let alone annouced by this time they would have been taken off to the funny farm.
