Semi-Official Cool Old NASCAR Pics Thread. (idea stolen from ZOOOM with his blessing)

Ive been toying with the idea of doing this for a few weeks ever since a bunch of old Wood Bros pics and other pics from 1988 were uploaded in a NASCAR thread about I dont even remember what. I think it was something about the Wood Bros car looking Old skool for Speedweeks

I didnt want to do it without getting a green light from ZOOOM whose semi official cool old Indy pics thread has become a monster here @ TF.

He loved the idea so here goes.

    First 4....

Ya gotta start with The King. A hero card from 1978. I bet thats Michigan.
Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

I LOVE the cars from this era. There is just something cool about this brick of a Thunderbird.

Here are just a few I have that I've taken over the years. I have A BUNCH more!

    Elliot Forbes-Robinson Daytona 1982

    Buddy Baker Daytona 1983

    Kyle Petty Daytona 1982

The Silver Fox David Pearson Daytona 1982. David drove this car in the 82 Busch Clash. Dick Brooks qualified and raced this car in the 82 500. I think David was driving in this picture. This was taken on the first day of practice I think.

Bill Elliott & Ron Bouchard Daytona 1983

    Dale Earnhardt Daytona 1983

The 96 car... Lonestar JR? I sorta kinda remember that ride. Did ya ever notice the hood in that picture of the 96 car? It doesnt even come close to being a tight fit. Hanging a body like that would get ya fired from a Pro-Cup team these days

Who was in the 13 car? Never seen that one before

The 96 was Elliot Forbes-Robinson's ride in 1982.

I competely agree with starting with Richard.....that choice of car is not the easiest thing on the eyes though. Dare I say this may make the argument FOR the COT? A SuperBird or Torino pic of Petty would certainly put the world order back in balance

The 73-77 MC is an acquired taste, at best. Goes well with plaid flares and Fittipaldi-style sidies. Richard's rocking the white-guy afro in the pic, which is optional. As retina scorching as family photos from a 1974 wedding.

Trivia time: Why was the 70-77 MC a popular alternative to the Chevelles of the same years?
The fans should be the absolute last people considered on any decision that could effect a participant. Doc Austin

Lying was a no-brainer for me. Robin Miller

The location of the engine gave it better balance. Not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Yup. Actually, it moved almost everything back from the front axle line. Driver, roll cage, window glass, etc.

I love the stock car look from 1980 - 87. Of course, that's when I first started following the sport.

I raced street stocks on a high banked asphalt oval in the 1980s. The '73-'78 Monte WAS the hot set up because of the ridiculous engine set back. When scaled right they would just make a left turn at the end of the straights.

Here's a couple of photos from the second tire test NASCAR did at IMS in 1993. Here's a link to some other photos from the same test.

My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).

We are currently restoring this 71 Roadrunner. This car ran as the #32 car at Ontario and Riverside in 1972 and driven by Kevin Terris. Kevin Terris had an earlier car, a 1969 Roadrunner, which he ran before and after the 1971 Roadrunner. We do not need information on the 1969 car. Does anyone have any information where this car might have run in 1971 and/or any prior history of it? Does anyone have any photos of this car which might help in documenting its history and which might help us in its restoration? The 71 Roadrunner is the red car on the right in the picture below. Please contact Randy at randy@peterson-motorsports.com 707-974-8061.

We are currently restoring this 1960 Starliner. This car was owned Junie Donleavey in 1960, later owned by the Wamsleys from Virginia. It was driven by several drivers among them Speedy Thompson and Runt Harris. We have found only 3 pictures of this car and one of them is below. Does anyone have any other pictures that would help us in the restoration of this car? Anyone have any historical information on this car? Contact Randy at randy@peterson-motorsports.com 707-974-8061.

Have you contavted Joe Machado who runs this site?

    http://aerowarriors.com/vftjmc1.html

    He worked on Kevin Terris's pit crew in 1971. Here is a quote from one of the videos on that site (even though it involves the '70 body);

Kevin Terris - Joe made the trip from California to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1971 as a member of Kevin Terris' pit crew. This video shows a small portion of Terris' unsuccessful qualifying run for the World 600. The Road Runner seen here started life as a '68 Satellite street car that was found abandoned in a Los Angeles airport parking lot. The car experienced several re-incarnations in its racing life, including a brief stint as a SuperBird which finished 38th at the Falstaff 400 on June 14, 1970.
