Semi-Official Cool Old NASCAR Pics Thread. (idea stolen from ZOOOM with his blessing)

Ive been toying with the idea of doing this for a few weeks ever since a bunch of old Wood Bros pics and other pics from 1988 were uploaded in a NASCAR thread about I dont even remember what. I think it was something about the Wood Bros car looking Old skool for Speedweeks

I didnt want to do it without getting a green light from ZOOOM whose semi official cool old Indy pics thread has become a monster here @ TF.

He loved the idea so here goes.

    First 4....

Ya gotta start with The King. A hero card from 1978. I bet thats Michigan.
Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

I LOVE the cars from this era. There is just something cool about this brick of a Thunderbird.

Here are just a few I have that I've taken over the years. I have A BUNCH more!

    Elliot Forbes-Robinson Daytona 1982

    Buddy Baker Daytona 1983

    Kyle Petty Daytona 1982

The Silver Fox David Pearson Daytona 1982. David drove this car in the 82 Busch Clash. Dick Brooks qualified and raced this car in the 82 500. I think David was driving in this picture. This was taken on the first day of practice I think.

Bill Elliott & Ron Bouchard Daytona 1983

    Dale Earnhardt Daytona 1983

The 96 car... Lonestar JR? I sorta kinda remember that ride. Did ya ever notice the hood in that picture of the 96 car? It doesnt even come close to being a tight fit. Hanging a body like that would get ya fired from a Pro-Cup team these days

Who was in the 13 car? Never seen that one before

The 96 was Elliot Forbes-Robinson's ride in 1982.

The 13 is probably Dick Brooks.

The first car to exceed 200mph at Daytona! It's Rick Roland in his ARCA car. This thing was a rocket!

I think David's car was the 03 Buick.

I know what's going on. David drove this car in the Busch Clash in 82. Dick Brooks drove it in the 500. I worked on an ARCA car so I was there when David was running getting ready for the Clash. Seems we're both right! I'll put a note on my original post. BTW David didn't qualify for the 500 in 82 upon further digging.

    Cool! Love the pics.

I found the 82 Clash on Youtube. AJ and Richard called the race with Ken Squier!

I recall Pearson starting the 1981 season in a car #16. Some guy named David Halpern was the car owner or a big muckity-muck on the team. Mr Halpern died suddenly and unexpectedly and the team disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

I dont know if Pearson was forced to scramble for any available rides after that or not but thats the way I remember it happening. Feel free to correct my 30 year old memories

In another shot it shows Morgan Sheperd in the Rahmoc #75. I do not remember that at all but its his name on the roof. Was he in that car because of Bonnetts bad leg injury the year before?

I competely agree with starting with Richard.....that choice of car is not the easiest thing on the eyes though. Dare I say this may make the argument FOR the COT? A SuperBird or Torino pic of Petty would certainly put the world order back in balance

The 73-77 MC is an acquired taste, at best. Goes well with plaid flares and Fittipaldi-style sidies. Richard's rocking the white-guy afro in the pic, which is optional. As retina scorching as family photos from a 1974 wedding.

Trivia time: Why was the 70-77 MC a popular alternative to the Chevelles of the same years?

The location of the engine gave it better balance. Not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Yup. Actually, it moved almost everything back from the front axle line. Driver, roll cage, window glass, etc.

I love the stock car look from 1980 - 87. Of course, that's when I first started following the sport.

I raced street stocks on a high banked asphalt oval in the 1980s. The '73-'78 Monte WAS the hot set up because of the ridiculous engine set back. When scaled right they would just make a left turn at the end of the straights.
