That makes sense. I was pretty sure it was #27 and that was MC Andersons # for a few seasons
I remember Cale driving it in 1981 & maybe 1982 with Valvoline colors
Was Bonnett ever in that car?

You say Petty was in the Magnum for early '78, so what model did Petty switch to after the Magnum?
Or did he go right to Chevy?

Those LeSabres were kind of ugly IMHO. Buick made up for it in 1988 however.

IIRC, he parked the Dodges for Chevys at the end of the summer of 78, and ran MCs the rest of the year. I think his first race in the Olds was the 79 D500.

I don't think Bonnett ever drove for Anderson. I think Cale was his last driver, between leaving Junior and driving Harry Ranier's 28 Hardees car.

If I recall...Cale got the Anderson ride after driver Sam Sommers.

If you so desire, there is a Helen Rae Monte Carlo on Ebay.

Benny drove for Anderson in 79 and 80, then Cale.

Was looking at this pic and saw Marcis' 77-79 Impala/Caprice. Was thinking about those because of Petty's switch to GM. I knew Marcis had one, and I remember that RLP had one. Looks like Marcis is using the 77 Impala grille.

Ertl made a 1/25 model kit of a Petty Caprice at the time (pretty much a disassembled toy, not a good model), but it was the wrong body. The kit was made from the restyled 1980 Caprice, but I remember that RLP's race car used the wire-bent wraparound rear window, which was only 77-79. It sticks in my head that Richard's car used the 78 Impala grille.

Here's one I have of Cale in MC Anderson's car at Daytona in 1982. Cale's crew chief David Ifft was a Lee Raymond's crew chief at the super speedways in ARCA in the mid 80's.

Here's David being interviewd by ESPN at Talladega in 1986. Lee was running 1st or 2nd at the time. He ended up 2nd that day.

Sad that a Regal is the best looking GM product in that shot

Not a good era for car guys

Yeah once you cut it to pieces

They looked good but it was also the cookie cutter era for asphalt modifieds. The Cavalier body was more or less the only body style used by 99.9% of the teams for probably 12 years running.
They were still using the Cavalier tin years after you stopped seeing Cavaliers on the road. Sure some of them were called Olds Firenzas but they were Cavaliers with a different name on the roof

Asphalt mods have gotten away from that now and they all look different again which is a good thing.

From Kev - "Sure some of them were called Olds Firenzas but they were Cavaliers with a different name on the roof."

Similar to a situation at Corbin Speedway a couple years back. We had all these Camaros running (and one Firebird) in Pure Street, and two guys show up with Novas. I told them one was gonna be an Olds Omega and the other a Pontiac Ventura and they could flip for it.

One of them asked why, and I said, "We've got plenty of Chevrolets."

When the guy with the Firebird got the nose knocked off, he wanted to put a Camaro nose on it. I told him he couldn't for the same reason. He found a Firebird nose.

Found a picture of the Petty car w/vinyl roof at Daytona in 1968. Notice the duct tape above the windshield trying to keep the vinyl from peling back any further.

About 30-40 secs into this video, The King takes matters into his own hands as he attempts a repair.

I'm imagining a conversation that ended with someone painting a big red arrow on the car pointing at the exhaust pipe.

My guess is that it's a reminder to whomever is responsible for loading the car up onto the hauler/trailer to not scrape/dent the pipe.

It is a jacking position, just behind the exhaust.

Beautiful car, everything that a stock car should be, IMO.

I don't remember Paul Goldsmith driving a '68 Roadrunner, but I did find a picture showing it.

That wasn't a vinyl roof, that was vortex generation cloth, a secret weapon of the time, to make the air run smoother over the trunklid and keep it clean so a sponsor could be put there one day.
