    Historic Stock Car Photos

OK, guys, here with go. This one has DannyB's blessing. A similar thread on the HAMB, after almost three years, has been throttled somewhat (although it's still going) by a moderator's feeling that going up into the 80s is counter to that board's policy of coming only as far as the mid 60s. Let's have at it, boys!

This is for any type of stock car racing, dirt or pavement, from the beginning up through about 1985. Kev started his NASCAR thread out with a photo of the King, so I'll kick this one off with the King's daddy. This is Lee Petty at Corbin Speedway in August of 1954. He won the 200-lap race on what was a half-mile dirt track at the time. It was the week before Darlington, and he was on the way to his first championship. The car is a 1954 Chrysler.

This is going to be an interesting thread. I've wondered how difficult it would be for someone to set up a photo archive to try to track every driver who ever raced in NASCAR. Or at least as many as possible.

THAT would be quite the task! Especially during the early days when about anybody who could ran NASCAR.

and to toot my own horn.

    Cars I worked on.

The first racecar I worked on. Don Wilbur was the driver as with all the #27 pictures. We ran mostly the local tracks and some of the closer ASA races.

Don inside of Buster Blackford at Dayton Speedway. 1979

Brand new 3rd Design Howe Chassis. Just home from being lettered. Fall 1979

Win number 6 during the 1980 season. Shady Bowl Speedway, DeGraff, OH 1980. I'm the 3rd from the right.

First practice of the season 1983. Kil-Kare Speedway Xenia, OH

Lee Raymond. USAC 4 Crown Race. Eldora Speedway 1982

Lee Raymond. Daytona 1983. ARCA Super Speedway car.

Lee Raymond. ARCA Short Track car. Winchester 1983.

Lee Raymond. ARCA 200. Daytona 1984.

Lee Raymond. Atlanta 1984 ARCA race.

Lee Raymond. Talladega 1986. ARCA race.

Lee Raymond. Daytona ARCA 200 1988. The Beretta!

I know the Beretta is pushing the time frame a bit but it was a one off car. See the link below for more on this car. After you open the link scroll down about 3/4's of the page.

Old Coups once ruled the dirt tracks in the North East.

They did here on SW Ohio too. Just a little before my time. I came onto the local scene at 15 or so in my area. It was the mid to late 70's. By then the Camero's and such had taken over.

    Nice Shots!

Thanks for responding so quickly, guys. Here's one from ARCA at Dayton in 1968. Les Snow (6), Andy Hampton (58), Benny Parsons (98), and Bobby Watson (8).

Hampton and Watson are in Ranier Racing Dodges, Snow in his own Plymouth, Parsons in his own Ford. All four cars with factory support.
