    Have seen picture similar to this one before. I'm always puzzled by the numerals. They look just like the font used by Petty Enterprises - especially for Kyle's early years driving for PE. I've often wondered if this chassis...and maybe some decals...were purchased from PE.

    Note the absence of STP on the hood. The 43 ran (and won) the next race, the Daytona 500, without even having the red stripes - just a Petty blue hood. They then ran a Petty blue car with small STP labeling at Richmond. All because of on-going negotiations with STP during that time. It didn't take long to get STP back on board to help see Richard through to his 7th championship. (Funny how that 6th Daytona 500 win created a bunch of leverage for those boys from Level Cross.)
