Finally got to some of my ASA stuff. These are from the 1982 Circle City 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

    Alan Kulwicki

    Dick Trickle

    Don Gregory

I had Harry Gant written on the back of the picture. I think this may have been a Dillon V6 house car. It didn't hit the track that day.

Bob Senneker and Butch Miller engage in a little pushing match.

A few new pictures of the #27 Jessie's Hair Fashions Camero. Don Wilbur is the driver.

Taken at Dayton Speedway early 1979. This car was destroyed at Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraf, OH not too long after this picture was taken.

Taken at Queen City Speedway April 6, 1980 at the ASA Queen City 200

Taken sometime in 1980 at Dayton Speedway.

Here are a few more of those fastback Olds and Buicks.
John Knaus ran this one that I would love to find in colour. The rest we've already built models of

The Black Knight Johnny Bogeman may have already been posted.

Wayne Keeling raced this Buick bodied version around Southern Ontario in 1979.

Randy Slack ran this one in Southern Ontario also in 1979.

I sure do miss the ASA. It sure was an awesome short track series. I seen many ASA shows at Salem back in the 80"s & 90's. There nothing going on around here nowadays that compares to it, sadly.

Thanks for that Trickle photo at IRP, kkoether. First one I've seen with the old tower in it. Let's go waaaay back. The Jeffersonville Sportsdrome, 1949. This was the year I got involved in racing, selling NSSN in the grandstands when not quite 11 years olf. Can't identify the drivers, but I believe the No. 50 was one of Justin King's cars, sometimes driven by Pat O'Connor. Looks more like Justin in this photo, but he usually drove the No. 36...

Again from the Sportsdrome. Milt Hartlauf in the McNulty No. 39 after a win. They later had a coupe and a coach, with Milt driving No. 39 as a coupe, and Tommy Thompson in the coach as a team car, No. 40. At that time they were both Hudsons.

It figures you'd be asking that question, Danny. Of course he was from your hometown, Columbus, Ind. He was very, very good to me when I was selling papers at the Sportsdrome as a pre-teen and teenager, and watched over me when I sold NSSN at the 1956 Night Before the 500 at the old 16th Street Speedway. Snuck me into the pits so I could sell more papers. Rags Carter threw me out during the first program and the second one, and then said "I give up" during the third one. It was through Justin that I met Pat O'Connor, who became my first driver hero. When I came out of the service in 1960, Justin came up at a midget race and told me how happy he was to see me again. He was a great guy.

One very interesting car in ARCA. This was a former Holman-Moody car which had been driven by Fred Lorenzen. Still had the baby blue interior. It was purchased by Barney Barnhart, and several good men drove it in ARCA. I remember it most for the times Curtis Turner was at the wheel. In this photo, it definitely has ol' Pops' stamp on it.

I loved working from the track. We had an ARCA race at Louisville Downs, a trotting track which was a half-mile, crushed limestone. That's Iggy Katona qualifying. I'm using this one on the cover of my first book...

Doing the crossover with ASA was also a thrill, putting them into double file. I first saw Vandewater do it with the midgets in the 50s, and learned to do it with the UMRA TQs in the 60s. Rex Robbins commented one day at I-70 that we needed something to "spice up" the show. Wayne Doebling mentioned the old UMRA crossover, Steve Stubbs seconded it, and I had to explain it to Rex. He was a little aghast, but agreed to it. From then on it was part of the pre-race deal. I still think Doebling and Stubbs set me up. Below, Butch Miller heads inside for the pole at Winchester. This is going to be the other cover photo on the book.

You ever hear of Tex Enright? He was something to see 40 years ago around the NY/NJ dirt tracks
Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

Interesting...I didn't know they ever raced any cars at the Downs. I do remember the motorcycles, though.

John, I remember that race. Someone (Les Snow?) tore down the flimsy wooden fence on the inside of the track. I think.

I don't think it was Les, but whoever it was ended up in the little lake they had there. Les did cause some damage. They had the cars garaged in the horse stalls. Les fired up his 426 Hemi, and both walls fell down.
